http://www.rollcall.com/news/forget_the_buffett_rule_obama_wants_it_to_be_reagan_rule-213714-1.htmlPresident Barack Obama offered Wednesday to call the Buffett Rule the Reagan Rule, citing President Ronald Reagans push to close tax loopholes for millionaires.
If itll help convince folks in Congress to make the right choice, we can call it the Reagan Rule instead of the Buffett Rule, Obama said at a White House event flanked by millionaires and their secretaries supportive of a 30 percent minimum tax on income of more than $1 million.
Im not the first president to call for this idea that everybodys got to do their fair share, Obama said. Some years ago, one of my predecessors traveled across the country pushing for the same concept. He gave a speech where he talked about a letter he had received from a wealthy executive who paid lower tax rates than his secretary and wanted to come to Washington and tell Congress why that was wrong.
Obama continued, That wild-eyed, socialist, tax-hiking class warrior was Ronald Reagan. He thought that in America, the wealthiest should pay their fair share, and he said so. I know that position might disqualify him from Republican primaries these days.
Obama quips he'd change 'Buffett Rule' to 'Reagan Rule' to sway GOP lawmakers

(16,113 posts)position on tax cuts. That converted a lot of Democrats, right? Perhaps it's best to just let deceased presidents remain dead.

(810 posts)why don't we refer to loopholes in the tax system as Romney Loopholes® . Romney supports them and has made or protected millions of bucks using them, so why don't we name them for him?
Just sayin'.

I want MY America back!
The Economic Policies of the America I grew up in....50s & 60s.
The Tax Policy and Trade Policies of those years built the greatest Working/Middle Class the WORLD has ever seen.
What was the tax rate on the millionaires back then?
Why couldn't WalMart come to a small town and undercut the local businesses in the 60s?
You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.
