"Legislators Dictating Vaginal Outcomes"...AZ Passes Three New Bills, Redefines When Life Begins

This is a line I just heard on MSNBC "Now" with Alex Wagner. Michael Steele , former head of GOP, said this re:the new AZ laws. The entire panel cracked up and couldn't stop laughing. (obviously, the new laws are ridiculous and NOT funny, but the phrases that are going to emerge from this.. oy vey ! )

So, phrase for the day: Vaginal Outcomes.

Arizona lawmakers gave final passage to three anti-abortion bills Tuesday afternoon, including one that declares pregnancies in the state begin two weeks before conception.

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed a bill to prohibit abortions after the 18th week of pregnancy; a bill to protect doctors from being sued if they withhold health information about a pregnancy that could cause a woman to seek an abortion; and a bill to mandate that how school curriculums address the topic of unwanted pregnancies.

The 18th week bill includes a new definition for when pregnancy begins. All of the bills passed the Senate and now head to Gov. Jan Brewer (R) for her signature or veto. Passage of the late-term abortion bill would give Arizona the earliest definition of late-term abortion in the country; most states use 20 weeks as a definition

from the end of the woman's last period which can be 2 weeks before she gets pregnant.

Essentially to keep track they would have to have every woman submitting details of their periods every month. They call this non-intrusive government.

Nosiree, move along folks...

A sentence in the bill defines gestational age as “calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period of the pregnant woman,” which would move the beginning of a pregnancy up two weeks prior to conception.

It's not like it'll change their minds...these people are creating laws based on a religious concept...in my opinion these laws are the start of creating a state religion...

You cannot change the mind of a religious fanatic, no matter what reasoning you attempt to use.

thus making abortion not an option because the woman will realize it too late. It's hateful.

does that mean that having periods is abortion? All those eggs ending up in a Cotton pad to be tossed in the garbage would be counted as babies then wouldn't they?

The other two bills passed by the House include the state's "wrongful birth, wrongful life" bill that prohibits lawsuits against doctors who do not provide information about a fetus' health if that information could lead to an abortion. In addition, parents cannot sue on the child's behalf after birth.

The third bill requires that schools teach students that adoption and birth are the most acceptable outcomes for an unwanted pregnancy.

That is basically what they are saying. It sound to me as a backdoor attempt to discriminste against women based on their fertility.

Been there, seen that, as a young woman. Basically, if you can get pregnant, we (employers too) will discriminate against you. Assume all women already ARE pregnant. Welcome to the wonderful world of the 1950's.
