....when I saw some of the Army team on TV -- they were just HUGE big bruisers. Tackles, maybe, or offensive blockers --- I wondered how they qualified for Army fitness standards.

Either Yale has an unusually talented team this year and received every break imaginable, or Army is so bad that a decent Ohio high school football team could beat them.

To me, this news is truly shocking.

If Army wins a football game, it's generally because the other team got lost on the way to the stadium. The problem Army, Navy and Air Force have is very simple: if you are big enough to be a football player you're too damn big to be in the Army. I went through the Seattle Seahawks' roster - Seattle has some of the smallest players in the NFL, so they're a good team to use. The only man on the entire 53-man roster who's scrawny enough to serve in the military without constantly being in remedial PT is Richard Sherman.

as a big college football fan-its rare an Ivy League team beats a Division 1A school. Ivy League doesn't give athletic scholarships. Actually neither does Army but under NCAA rules Army can admit unlimited recruits into their program and Prep Academies.
