If they don't need it fine, but if they want one better to have one there instead of giving it to them later.

and remember to smile. Don't say anything negative about previous job/company - just say looking for a new opportunity. Good luck to your wife!

I've used this site in the past for practice, though each typing test is different.

Construction companies are looking for detail oriented and people that can multitask. Emphasize those attributes.
And a eagerness to learn different things.

Wow, they don't want much for what is probably a low-wage job, do they? I'll bet they want a college degree too, right?

and the first test was always typing. I didn't type very fast and lucked into my first couple of low-paying office jobs. But putting in effort and working hard when you get there gets you the references you need to advance.

Realistically, I'd expect them to test her over program use, minor maintenance for office equipment (ie, does she know how to clear out a jammed printer), and to do a number of different typing tests.

Probably a few other things, but two hours really isn't all that odd. Then again, my experience is a bit skewed since I took what was pretty much a 8 hour test.

Nobody is forcing anyone to apply. They put out job notice and some answer it. That is how it works.

Living in an anti-worker, low-wage, job-poor state for so long has made me *very* cynical about these things.
