Barack Obama, despite his political faults--is one of the most mature and intelligent presidents ever elected. He is not acting out of your pop psychology framing.

And as long as Americans continue to do that, we lose.

(18,402 posts)But governingand especially trying to govern in a very divided country, with a divided Congress, in challenging timesis serious business.
Thoughtful and informed responses may be boring to you and others, but it sure beats the "heh hehs" and nicknaming of the former (p)resident. And it sure beats the chest-beating that candidates like to do to grab your attention. We all know that Obama is fully capable of doing inspirational. He's the president though now, not on the campaign trail, and serious is necessary. These are serious times. In the proper environment, he's also great at entertaining. Press conferences aren't stand-up routines.
America needs to grow up and pay attention. Government is not entertainment.
TreasonousBastard
(43,049 posts)it'as inspiration I'm talking about.
For 6 years now he's been a good speaker, but never roused the people. Lincoln, TR, FDR, JFK and Reagan gave inspirational speeches in times more troubled than these and with a population just as divided as now. Or more so.
The news and various government offices report the facts. Par of the President's job is presenting the essence of those facts to inspire us toward something.
You want to call it a sales job? OK, it's a sales job, but without sales, nothing would be sold.

if people are really listening, they would hear that he is going to exec order immigration reform among others. he is challenging them to pass laws, in the meantime, he will use the veto pen and use exec action.

Keep them guessing!
Funny how when Obama is on the ballot, and actually campaigning, we have better nights, tgan when we (not us, but some folks...) hate on him all day every day, we end up getting our asses kicked. Seems to me, people like him better just fine when he's running. And that when he's running we get record turnout. Just something I noticed. Seems easier to win with him than without him in some ways.

(90,865 posts)He was raised in Hawai'i, which has its own distinct regional accent, but so was I, and my mother (from Colorado originally) made absolutely sure we spoke standard English.
Obama went to college in California and elsewhere on the Mainland. He made a choice when he left the Islands. So Hawai'i may live in his heart, but there's no local accent whatsoever. It's just that I can't place what it is -- and that may be the point.

(23,664 posts)He's had six years to stand up for his policies and programs and act like the leader of his party and he hasn't done it yet.
Why should I listen to more bullshit about working across the aisle and bipartisanship?
Never thought I'd want to see LBJ back in office but that's what we need now. Not Professor Obama, not slimy bill Clinton, but a Dem with good policies and the cojones to push them through.
Hell, Obama can't even sell his own party on his program.

(12,334 posts)It's as simple as that. Right now, I don't want to hear about bipartisanship either.
LBJ? In spite of the great things he was able to accomplish, he decided not to run for re-election in 1968. He didn't have his party's support. You know, a little disaster of his called Vietnam.

(21,506 posts)They stick their fingers in their ears and say I am not listening till i get my pony.
The man hasn't stopped trying to sell the public and his party on his agenda since he got into office. You are living proof of the ability to completely ignore everything he has been saying for years now while trying to pretend he has'nt been saying it.
Once again he is up on the podium laying out his agenda and once again here you are refusing to listen while complaining he doesnt ever lay out his agenda. It would be completely hilarious if it wasn't so mind numbingly stupid.

I liked what he said and I saw that he was not a real happy camper. I don't think he is going to take this garbage much longer.
Just in the past hour or so Mitch McConnell took umbrage to what he said. I can't find a link now, I heard it on a CBS news Radio report in the truck. I was shocked and not shocked at the same time.
(Translation: Mitch's Idea of working together means doing everything the GOP wants)
