WASHINGTON Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn warns there could be not only a political firestorm but acts of civil disobedience and even violence in reaction to President Obama's executive order on immigration Thursday.
"The country's going to go nuts, because they're going to see it as a move outside the authority of the president, and it's going to be a very serious situation," Coburn said on Capital Download. "You're going to see hopefully not but you could see instances of anarchy. ... You could see violence."
Coburn, 66, is a conservative Republican but one who has a personal relationship with Obama. They entered the Senate in the same class, elected in 2004, and the new senators from opposite ends of the political spectrum and their spouses immediately hit it off at an orientation dinner. Last year, the president wrote a tribute in Time magazine to Coburn as "someone who speaks his mind (and) sticks to his principles."
"I really like the guy," Coburn, 66, told USA TODAY's weekly video newsmaker series Wednesday. "I thought he's neat, and I think Michelle's a neat lady."

(16,286 posts)They want a war.
We now have politicians who are just as dumb, mean, stupid and hateful as their constituents.
This is sort of new, we have always had them but there are so many of them now.

(3,732 posts)There are certainly a lot more poor people being affected by the chaotic conditions of $300/month welfare only 3 months/year and continual cuts to food stamps and the criminalization of poverty through court fee traps! Why hasn't there been violence over that yet?
Oh wait, Ferguson.
Evidently there needs to be more violence for it to matter to Coburn. Or only the violence conducted by his "team" counts?

(1,076 posts)The two gentlemen have an obvious friendship. However, the good Senator mentions violence. It seems to be a GOP thing to mention violence. Some folks will take that to be "real violence" is condoned.

(25,248 posts)Is Coburn trying to piggyback on the violence that is being talked about from the Grand Jury decision and then going to say it's because of President Obama's immigration EO?

(11,495 posts)The right seems to be using their old talking points, and trying to promote something that they "want" to happen, but probably won't. It's just another attempt at trying to blame things on the president that aren't his fault.
When Reagan came out with his amnesty program, there were no riots. The main reason republicans don't want any real immigration reform is that there donors don't want to see million of workers that they currently can exploit because the are undocumented, made legal. When workers are no longer afraid to complain when they are treated badly because they fear deportation, those right wing corporations can no longer increase their profits by paying substandard wages, like they do now. Republicans want cheap labor, and what the president is going to do will ruin that.
I really can't see people rioting, except the tea party drones who watch fox news and respond to what I am sure will be the fox news crew once again do their best to "promote" some kind of violence. The majority of American wan "real" immigration reform so why would the riot?
