I think I figured out tonight's Jeopardy question in "20th century presidential elections" but I

won't tell and be a spoiler. Besides, I may be wrong.

Took me long enough just to figure out how to Google it.

Here it is in case you want to give it a try

"In this year, there were no pres's or vp's running, but 3 of the 4 men on the 2 major party ballots would become president."

Whew. How anyone can get that in 30 seconds I'll never know...

other every morning when we read the Times. The answer is posted at the bottom of the page the next day. Sometimes this makes for a lot of Google research time but luckily we're retired...

My first guess was 1960 but that was wrong because Nixon had been a VP.

I see that it was 1920.

I finally just Googled all the candidates for pres and vp in the 20th century and scanned all of them and the answer popped out...

was in that year's presidential election, but 3 of the 4 candidates who had been on the major party tickets went on to become President.

In 1920, Warren Harding won the election and when he died in 1923, his Vice President Calvin Coolidge became President. Neither of them had previously served in either office. The man who had been the Democratic vice presidential candidate in 1920 went on to be elected President in 1932. That man was, of course, Franklin Roosevelt.
