McConnell: 'Congress will act' if Obama issues immigration executive order

http://www.kentucky.com/2014/11/20/3549178/mcconnell-congress-will-act-if.html#storylink=omni_popular#wgt=pop

<snip>
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell promised Thursday that Congress will take action if Obama moves ahead with an executive order on immigration. The text of McConnell's remarks was released by his office.

Mitch McConnell made the following statement regarding the President's proposed executive action on immigration:

“I'd like to say a few words this morning about President Obama's proposed executive action on immigration.

“And I'll begin with a quote from the President. "Democracy is hard,' he said during a commencement speech in Miami three years ago. “But it's right. [And] changing our laws means doing the hard work of changing minds and changing votes, one by one."

They could have passed a immigration bill anytime they wanted . . . or could get the numbers.

What he is doing has nothing to do with Congress's ability/right to enact law. He is using an already law passed by Congress that gives him the power to implement immigration policy.

Here is from Michael Lederman's article at Balkanization:

'The new policy will not “deter bipartisan cooperation,” or put a crimp in any statutory reform efforts that might become law. Congress can enact a bill tomorrow if it wishes—the Senate has already passed a bill that awaits action by the House, and the Executive’s initiative this evening will not prevent Republicans from discussing or proposing alternatives, especially after they control both houses of Congress next year.'
