"Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work. There will be no further statement from Mr. Cosby or any of his representatives."
- John P. Schmitt, lawyer for Bill Cosby

Bill Cosbys attorney put out a fierce statement today to the press after three additional woman came out publicly saying the comedy icon sexually assaulted them. Martin Singer made it known in the statement that hes getting a bit peeved with the media-driven feeding frenzy.

(5,402 posts)I can just see the lawyer explaining. "I'm sorry Mr. Cosby, but I cannot issue another statement. I said a week ago that we would not issue any more statements, and a consistent message is more important than your instructions."
Seems like the rape allegations are the real issue.

(12,151 posts)When someone makes a prediction or promise that something will or will not happen, and it turns out differently, or even if they themselves change their mind, that is not a "lie."
Lying is saying something you know not to be true, not being wrong about it or predicting the future inaccurately or breaking a promise.
And yes, as noted, the lawyer is not the point of the Cosby story. He is a spokesman for Cosby.
Odd to focus on the lawyer here.

(23,946 posts)unproven and already well examined old allegations....and allegstions they are, allegstions they remain no matter the rush to judgment in the court of public opinion and current feed in the trough.
This constant and perpetual rush to judgment because you can is wrong...the media is a poor judge of criminal guilt.
And agreed, how did the lawyer lie by make a promise or prediction that did not turn out? Weird way to define the word.

(10,495 posts)it is wrong until they need a lawyer to represent them. There is an old saying among lawyers that everyone hates lawyers, except for their own.

(38,419 posts)Good criminal lawyers can't give a shit. If they are effectively defending their client, then he/she has to have dealt with the problem of the client lying long ago.. How can one live with themselves, if he/she is constantly dealing with the lies. They find a way. It is a job. Yes a well paid one for the very good lawyers, but still a job. The lies go with the territory, and it is a very ugly territory as this case demonstrates

(23,946 posts)there is an entire system set up for that.
Hint: it is not CNN or Entertainment Channel.
