12. Way to go. The biggest thing in your life now is getting the garbage out to

the curb the evening before they pick it up!
Unless you have a few plans otherwise.

Good for you, enjoy it as much as you possibly can.

It is a special kind of freedom to no longer have to answer to a boss. It is my wish for everyone to be free of the boss for a decent amount of time.

I am very happy for you.

79. I won't be 58 until next January 2015

I took a penalty to retire before age 60 because my years of service (this time around) and age didn't total up to 80. If not for health issues, I planned on working at least another 4-6 years.

83. Steve May You Enjoy Your Time

As someone who was forced to retire early almost seven years ago due to health problems, I have learned to live life to the fullest. It took me a few years to reconcile what had happened and to wind down my union interests, but it now has an outcome that has been the best that could happen to me.

Steve, THANK YOU for being the voice of labor here at DU, and don't let the bastards bring you down.

PS I'm still paying union dues, my body won't let me walk the talk, but the keyboard still talks the talk.

96. Awesome

if you're looking forward to it that is. I've been retired a few years now but I was forced into it because of health reasons so I really wasn't ready for it. Mentally speaking that is. I really wanted to work a few more years before the laying around in the shade years hit

101. Congrats Steve!

It's a good feeling. Don't be too worried if there is a period of adjustment. I went through it. It is a huge life event.

Enjoy!

110. I hope your health holds out for you to enjoy a lot of your time.

I figure health issues will retire me before I'm ready, too, so I'm following stories like yours closely.

Nothing yet, and I'm theoretically planning to retire at 85, but both my parents and all their siblings had cancer. All but one died before the age of 80, so while I'm not waiting around for the bad news, I know it's probably coming.
