St. Louis Rams players recognized this week's Ferguson protests with an emphatic gesture during player introductions when several members of the team's receiving corps entered the field in the "hands up, don't shoot" pose.
Stedman Bailey, Tavon Austin, Jared Cook, Chris Givens, and Kenny Britt came out with their hands up, before being joined by the rest of the team to start the game.

............The fact that five Rams took the one moment they could be sure that the stadium was watching to show their solidarity with Ferguson, then, is significant. Clearly, it was coordinated. Clearly, it was something that felt that they could not not do.
At a time when African-American activists are trying to resurrect the spirit of the civil rights era, the Rams pregame Monday was only the smallest reminder of how those convulsive years swept onto Olympic podiums and into the ring.
And in that way, they are an indicator of how deeply Ferguson has touched America.
size was a factor. Football players are big men. Now we know exactly how at least 5 of them are taking this.
It did not look like the coaches even knew it was going to happen.
