She said he was over fixing the air conditioner and saw her looking at the Zimmerman court hearing and said quote I think he's Innocent Martin is nothing but a No Limits Nig**er anyway. She said she told him hold up we don't use that word in this house. And told him to finish your work and get out. WOW!!!

(31,849 posts)Nope ... Just plain "get the f@#% out of my house."
But I strongly suspect the repair person wouldn't have said that to, or around, me.

(1,956 posts)People that are working for you know that their racist views could cause them serious trouble. as a rule, they're not interested in trouble.
I know that's easier to believe than that a radio host might stretch the truth a little to please their audience.

(7,581 posts)What did she think he was going to do, finish his work and watch TV for a while, or take a shower?? Have some milk and cookies. I think she made this story up. Sorry.

(37,748 posts)It's also pretty easy to believe that many people are often stupid in addition to being racist...

(31,849 posts)Racists take one look at the skin color of others and if it mixes their's, they assume that they will find a like mind.

(2,756 posts)People express racist views assuming I'm ok with that because I'm white. I even had a doctor talk to me, complaining about his nurses, during his exam. He didn't use the "N" word, but it wasn't much better. Needless to say, I haven't been back to him.

(13,390 posts)I have had people say racist things to me just to get a rise out of me. I hate that they get satisfaction out of it, but it usually works.

It also amazes me how many people feel totally free to say all kinds of bigoted things, always assuming their audience will agree.
Heck, I don't make my wildly liberal statements unless I'm certain my audience is willing to hear it.

(8,556 posts)But she didn't actually kick him out until he finished the work, right? So really, it wasn't all that different than how it would have gone normally, except she made it clear she didn't appreciate him or the language he used. Had he not used the slur, would she have invited him to stay for tea? I would guess not. He probably had other jobs to get to anyway.
Good for her for laying down the law. But the headline makes it sound like she threw him out right then and there.
I would have titled it:
'Radio Host Randi Rhodes chastises repairman for using racial slur in her home'

(31,849 posts)that there are other, more discreet, A/C repairmen in that town. And one more day of discomfort is not that big a deal.
And no ... after that comment, he would not have been paid a dime.

I have several times after explaining (as loudly as I have to) to the manager exactly why I did not believe I should pay.

(12,723 posts)Like Steve Martin in The Jerk there would genuinely have been violence. I may have only the tiniest drops of black blood but I am happy to tell someone what a terrible mistake they make in using that word around me.
No Excuses.

(4,310 posts)his spine realigned when whatever this creep was discussing out came the "N"
word. This bastard knew he had my husband in a vulnerable position and that's
why the coward said it. After my husband was dressed he informed him he was
reporting him to whichever agency or board that represented chiropractors and
he did.

(2,640 posts)the repairs had been completed- the only thing missing was a filter, and he didn't have any in his truck
he came into the room she was in to ask her if she had a spare filter, and that's when he heard her listening to the zimmerman hearing
he proceeded to put both feet into his mouth, and that's when randi told him "we don't use that word here" ("here" being her house, not the state of florida)
they got into a semi-heated discussion, he left, and ~scene~
let's not get some false legend started ppl

(30,674 posts)becasue they didn't put the dish back up properly after doing a great job on my roof. And this guy had a young Latino intern with him, learning the biz!
I argued with the guy telling him to cool it they did fine, they just don't have the expertise to tune in my sat dish. He grimbled, and went on complaining about other things "they" do.
When he went around the corner and I was alone with the Latino kid, I apologized for the guy and said I hoped he wasn't like that all the time. The kid was so nice, making excuses for his trainer, saying he does roofs too & hates the competition etc. I said that's no excuse, and he c should complain if he ever feels abused.
Boy oh boy!
