Police restore holiday spirit for family whose Christmas gifts were stolen

A North Miami Beach family can smile again a day after robbers broke into their home and stole their Christmas presents and nearly robbed them of their holiday spirit.

Thanks to the efforts of the North Miami Beach police department, Miami-Dade police and other donors, the family was given about $900 in gift cards, cash, dozens of toys and peace of mind on Christmas Eve. Pedro Huamanchumo tearfully thanked the police for their work and for helping his daughter, Alondra Tallendo, and their family have some relief after having their home burglarized.

Wanda Lopez got a gut-wrenching surprise when she returned to her La Verne home on Sunday after running some errands. Burglars had forced their way into her house and stolen all of the presents under her Christmas tree.

Lopez reported the burglary to the La Verne Police department, whose response was in keeping with the holiday spirit: Officers donated cash and gift cards from Target, Vons and Best Buy to the distraught grandmother, to help replace the stolen items.

Police, Firefighters Replace Gifts Packed in Family's Stolen Vehicle

Firefighters and police officers played Santa Claus to restore a family's holiday spirit by replacing gifts that were inside their vehicle when it was stolen on Christmas Eve.

The vehicle, belonging to a family of six, was stolen Wednesday from their residence in the 400 block of West Front Street in West Covina. Christmas gifts for the family's children, ages 10, 8, 4 and 7 weeks, were inside the vehicle, West Covina police said.

Members of the West Covina Police Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 154 replaced the gifts and toys just hours later, delivering the items before midnight on Christmas Eve.

I once in awhile watch the local news that I get from Kansas City. This past week they've been showing that KC cops have been pulling over drivers and instead of a ticket handing them a $100 bill. I think it is pretty nice, but am sure it is trying to restore some of the 'bad cop" image and maybe trying to say look how nice KC cops are compared to St Louis..........course I tend to be a skeptic about most things.
