Once in a while an issue comes along (such as Spiderwoman's ass) which reveals a deep divide among DUers. Is Katy Perry's hairstyle such an issue, or do most DUers not really care? Let's find out.

(25,406 posts)That must have been an IP based auto-ban of a repeat offender.
On edit: this one too! Why don't these people use proxies?
uppityperson
(115,677 posts)No, they were hand banned by mirt. Autoban they never get to post, this one does the IP proxie thing, must have several hundred bannings by now. Have you volunteered on mirt? It is quite something, seeing the repeaters come and get banned. I missed this reply, was it anything worthwhile?
Nye Bevan
(25,406 posts)saying that the earlier post said nothing wrong and should not have been removed, and that MIRT should be abolished.

Are we going to start bashing blacks for wigs and long flowing hair extensions, to get that 'white look'? Because a lot more of them wear those styles than cornrows.
ProudToBeBlueInRhody
(16,399 posts)And her makeup there is dreadful. And I usually think she's cute.
Shirley Manson wore some great cornrows in the late 90's, but it was so brief I can't find any pics. And she's the whitest white girl alive.

(6,399 posts)Or is it just a sense of them trying to be above the common folk?

(25,406 posts)But I had not heard of Iggy Azalea until a couple of days ago (a singer that some say is also guilty of cultural appropriation based on the accent she sings in).

(32,064 posts)I am under 50 and know who she is because of my kids. I still prefer to listen to classic rock and only hear pop music if my kids get to the radio station first. People just like different things.

(4,373 posts)50 maybe? and don't have kids or grandkids, it's very easy to not be exposed to mainstream culture. I don't live with anyone who listens to her, don't have them in my car, am not a fan of reality shows including talent shows or awards shows...it's not a matter of being above anyone, just not a part of my day-to-day life.
That said, I looked up Katy Perry for something else awhile ago, so did know who she was - but otherwise, I would have been one of the 'Katy Who?' group.

(18,585 posts)I've never been into music, period. I know the name, but I couldn't pick the face out of a line-up.

(72,790 posts)There's a lot of things I don't know, here and in real life. When I don't know something, instead of saying "Katy who" or "Miley who", I Google to get an idea of who or what something is.
I guess none of these "katy who" folks know what the Google is.

(15,480 posts)When I was actively scuba diving on numerous trips to the Caribbean & Cozumel, the first day there I would head down to the beach to get my hair braided by one of the beach vendors. I absolutely loved the freedom it gave me to pop in and out of the water all day long with my hair looking great. I hated to take the braids out when I finally returned home, but they shouted "vacation" and were too distracting and casual to be accepted in a court room or at a hearing. I needed people to focus on the content of my message and not my hair.
In response to this poll, I could give a rat's ass if a white woman chooses to wear cornrows.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
While heading to dinner with boyfriend Martin Kristen and her family in New York City yesterday, the German-born model rocked the braided hairstyle she got while on her July 4th weekend vacation in the Bahamas. The tanned skin, blonde hair and chiseled facial features gave us serious flashbacks to Bo Derek's iconic cornrows from 1979's "10."
