(16,286 posts)it was a sarcastic sign that would have said "To get to the bottom of the economic pile as soon as possible"
Since that is EXACTLY what the ENTIRE republican party has vowed to do, to destroy the American economy in hopes people will blame Obama for it.
And these criminals (cant call it treason, it isnt) are still in office.
People who purposely harmed your rightwing neighbor, so your neighbor would blame Black people and democrats and in hopes that your neighbors sons and daugthers and grandsons and granddaughters would also

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
There are plenty of ways to insult Sen. Graham without being sexist.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Dec 29, 2014, 02:06 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: In my world, sissy is not exclusively a sexist term. YMMV
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: WTF? Jesus Christ quit wasting my time with this crap and get a fucking grip...
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: You would have to hide the whole thread.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: You wanna call someone a sissy, go somewhere else.

(1,290 posts)Making references to Lady Gaga and calling him a "sissy" honestly sounds kind of homophobic. I know it's popular on DU (and Free Republic, for that matter) to call Lindsay Graham gay and poke fun of him for supposedly having some feminine mannerisms...but this shouldn't be acceptable on a website that supports equal treatment of all people.
Uben
(7,719 posts)I am so far from homophobic, you would never know. Sissy sounded better than what I was thinking, so......
Hey, it's the first time I have ever had an alerted thread (that I know of). Thirteen years, not too bad.
The jurors have a job to do, I don't have a problem with that. They could delete it, I wouldn't care. I don't take things that serious.
I'm sorry some felt offended, it certainly was not meant to offend anyone here, and it certainly was not intended to be anything like an anti-gay comment. I have many gay friends, both male and female. I just happen to really not care much for Mr. Graham.
To be honest, I was shocked anyone would alert on it. I didn't know Mr. Graham had a following here. I really don't consider him as having feminine mannerisms...not even sure what is meant by that. He does nag a lot and will jump on any bandwagon that he thinks will get him somewhere.
If anyone wants me to delete the post, just say so....I will. It was really just a thought and not meant to provoke.

(1,290 posts)I don't think you meant to say something insensitive, but it came across that way to the alerter and apparently three people on the jury, and I do think their opinions were shaped by the context of long standing rumors that Graham is a closeted gay man. These rumors are pretty controversial on DU (see this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023729419) and the LGBT community is split on whether or not we want to have any association with them. I'll admit as a gay man I'm personally conflicted on whether or not it's something we should talk about.
Also even when it concerns somebody that I think it's safe to say is universally reviled here, I don't doubt that the alert came because of the historical connotations of the word "sissy." This is a situation where the word takes on quite a different meaning depending on how you're implying it. If you were just using it in reference to one of the many other pandering, hypocritical Republican Senators, then I doubt anybody even notices it or cares enough to alert. But because of the aforementioned chatter about Graham's sexuality, somebody presumably saw your post and thought you were trying to say something about that.
In any case, I think the jury make the right decision here. You didn't say anything actively harmful, and I like the idea of DU as a place where we can have friendly discussion about these things, and reserve deletions for the truly horrible crap that the trolls drag in.
