If I did that, if YOU did that, you would be fired instantly...
so explain to me again, DU members who support these racist fuck cops, why defying and threatening their boss is OK?
You do realize their actions are direct physical threats against the Mayor, his family, and ALL New Yorkers who dont "tow the line"

(1,232 posts)and I could be wrong, but typically when one is in a government job especially, your conduct while on duty and/or when wearing a work uniform is governed by a code of conduct.
The actions of these officers is shameful, hurtful, clearly racist in nature, and disgusting. Every man and woman who turned their back on the Mayor should be properly disciplined.

(14,691 posts)Even when I was in a Catholic high school wearing the school uniform there were things we couldn't do, (like smoke LOL) while wearing that uniform.

(24,761 posts)AFAIK, the mayor is commander-in-chief of the police department. Two words: civilian oversight.

(2,382 posts)The cops' actions are indefensible. Such insubordination is usually grounds for dismissal. They just counted on strength in numbers. But they have lost what little respect they still had. The thing people don't seem to understand is that out-of-control police are not just a New York problem, it's endemic across the country, and it's only a part of a far, far more ominous pattern.
Perhaps it's worth refreshing our collective memory by re-reading a little history about the rise of fascism in post-WW I Europe.

(7,908 posts)Chief Bratton (who reports to de Blasio and serves at his pleasure).
"Toe the line" (not "tow the line," unless you're making some sort of witticism that's beyond my powers of comprehension this a.m.).
Otherwise, I agree with you 100%. If those cops were 'on duty' and getting paid when they committed their shameful act, there should be some serious repercussions coming down from Bratton for them and any line officers who countenanced the behavior. Otherwise, Bratton should resign forthwith.

(16,286 posts)So the mayor can tell the cops boss what to do, and he should tell him that these cops have crossed the line
KingCharlemagne
(7,908 posts)Giuliani's "Broken Window" policing policy when it helped de Blasio's real estate developer benefactors to gentrify the Park Slope neighborhood), but I think Bratton to his credit has openly condemned the actions of those NYPD cops who turned their backs on de Blasio. The question, of course, is whether oral condemnation by the Chief suffices or whether there should be further material consequences for this act of grandstanding and what another DUer called a 'petulant tantrum.'
My personal reservations about de Blasio don't really matter either, as he was elected by an overwhelming majority of New Yorkers and the will of the voters easily trumps any of my petty cavils. Given that, when the NYPD turns its back on de Blasio, it is turning its back on democracy and the will of the voters, as Charlie Pierce so eloquently noted a week ago.

(15,512 posts)and yeah he was targeted, by whom I'm not sure but the NYPD has a lot of unsavory connections and it wouldn't surprise me if one of them instigated this stupid stunt using DeBlasio as an Obama surrogate. Another Benghazi as it were. From what I've seen it doesn't seem to have been spontaneous and the media are dutifully assisting so hmm.
