Democrat Murphy beats Parisot in House of Delegates race in Northern Virginia
Democrat Kathleen Murphy eked out a victory Tuesday in a special election for Virginia’s 34th District House of Delegates seat marked by low turnout in snowy weather.
In another special election held Tuesday in central Virginia’s 63rd District, Democrat Joseph E. Preston sailed to victory, collecting 79 percent of the vote compared with about 18 percent for Independent Green Party candidate William Henry Jones Jr.
The winners of both races are likely to be sworn in later this week — just in time for the 2015 General Assembly session, which convenes Jan. 14.
