"SNIP......................
Obama provided no details about how he would fund the program.
White House and Education Department officials planned a briefing later Thursday to discuss the presidents proposal.
Put simply, what Id like to do is to see the first two years of community college free for everybody who is willing to work for it, the president said.
Last year, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed into law a scholarship program that provides free community and technical college tuition for two years to the states high school graduates. About 58,000 of the states roughly 62,000 seniors have applied to participate this fall.

(3,212 posts)Free junior college for all, and MORE of them. Junior colleges should also host non-degree programs so students don't have to pay for private corporate schooling to become an electrician or phlebotomist, for example.

(561 posts)He pulled off health care... can the O man pull off 2 free years of college? At least one year of will be remedial, considering the sorry state of high school grads and the technical demands of modern jobs.
Anybody that can show a decent high school performance....go for it.

(78,249 posts)of course, we also reneged on it a few decades later. Easy access to community college, as well as UC and CSU, has been one of the things that makes this state great, and it's being taken away piece by piece.

(2,679 posts)If you had good grades and stayed in state for college the state basically gave you a huge hand up or out depending on your political persuasion. If you went to a community college in fl and qualified for the bright futures scholarship it cover almost 100%.
Jebbie boy made it harder for kids to qualify. My daughter was able to take advantage of this my son not so much.
Kudos to the President!
