So I'm sitting in a tree with a rifle right now

Waiting for a deer, turkey or hog to walk out into this field I'm watching. I'm bored, it's cold and windy and my one typing finger I have poking out of the glove is numb, ask me anything. (you can see what a serious hunter I am because I'm surfing the internet and tapping all over my IPhone Mainly come out here to spend time with my dad and brother)

The various steaks and burgers lasted a couple winters in his family freezer.

I don't eat much meat -- fish when I'm out, poultry sometimes, as a guest -- because I don't want to support turning living beings into industrial "products." The process, in turn, dehumanizes us (as well as wrecks the planet).

But that honestly obtained elk of his was, I will grant, fairly tasty stuff.

Last edited Sat Jan 10, 2015, 10:37 PM - Edit history (1)

I was thinking about eventually buying some chickens/hens in order to get my own eggs. However, I saw a clip about egg production. A part of the clip pointed out that only Grade A eggs were sold in stores. The other grades were used for other stuff. So, when people grow their own animals for eggs what do they do about grades? Is there a real difference in taste between grades?

Hunting in cold, miserable conditions would never appeal to me in any way. Fishing was more my thing and I'd bait my own hook and gut & clean my own fish, thankyouverymuch. If it came down to hunting in winter vs. no meat, I'd plant more beans.

So good luck to you.

I quit a few years ago, but over the last few decades it became all about how to stay comfortable in 10º weather and not so much about shooting a deer. Every year my stand got a little fancier. I ended up in a 6x10 shack on a trailer, complete with propane heater & hotplate. My hunting buddy & I built it one fall.
