Nuance is only OK before the "but", not after it.

"I think that Charlie Hebdo's cartoons were racist, but I unambiguously condemn the attack on them because I believe in freedom of speech".

"I unambiguously condemn the attack on Charlie Hebdo because I believe in freedom of speech, but I think their cartoons were racist".

These look like they're synonyms, but they're not. In general, in a sentence with "but" in it, only the part after the "but" really matters.

So the first is fine (for what it's worth, I think it's wrong, and the people calling the cartoons racist mostly haven't got them), but the second one is not.

so that everyone can practice their freedom of speech in the approved manner.

An optional aesthetic reevaluation workshop will also be available for those whose tastes do not sync with the majority opinion.

is that from now on we should start our sentences with "but" since the only thing that matters is what comes after. Thanks, that should save us all some really unnecessary keystrokes.

I do hope your next project is to do something about the continued misuse of "your" and "you're."

I unambiguously condemn the attack on Charlie Hebdo because I believe in freedom of speech, but I believe emulating its action is not a helpful response because being offensive merely for the sake of offending makes it less likely, rather than more likely, that the diverse peoples of the world can peacefully share our very small planet.
