Conservative Clown Dinesh D’Souza Compares Himself To MLK and Twittersphere Echoes With Laughter
Conservative filmmaker and convicted felon Dinesh D’ Souza used today’s Martin Luther King Jr. remembrance to note what he called an “interesting parallel” between his life and that of the late civil rights leader. Writing on Twitter, D’Souza declared, “AN INTERESTING PARALLEL: MLK was targeted by J. Edgar Hoover, an unsavory character; I was targeted by the equally unsavory B. Hussein Obama.”
D’Souza’s mention of the president ‘targeting’ him is in reference to his recent trial and sentencing after pleading guilty to making illegal campaign contributions to New York Republican Wendy Long in her quest to unseat incumbent Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in 2012. The conservative D’Souza admitted to using “straw donors” to funnel $20,000 to Long’s unsuccessful campaign, resulting in a judge ordering him to pay a $30,000 fine, giving him five years probation, and sentencing him to serve eight months in a community confinement center in addition to attending weekly therapy sessions.
D’Souza initially claimed he was innocent — calling his indictment part of a conspiracy to harass him because of his criticism of the president — but eventually admitted his guilt after negotiating a plea bargain to lesser charges. Quick to note that, unlike D’Souza, King was arrested and spent time incarcerated where he wrote his famous “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” people on Twitter immediately began mocking D’Souza on Twitter, creating the hashtag #aninterestingparallel.
