Frank Serpico: "NYPD Back-turners Need to Be Fired"

Serpico Gives First Camera Interview in Years: “Maybe all these Protesters aren’t really wrong”
By Jay Syrmopoulos * January 20, 2015 Free Thought Project

New York, N.Y. – The name Frank Serpico became synonymous with one of the biggest scandals in the history of the NYPD in the late 1960’s, after he exposed widespread corruption within the department, ultimately testifying before a grand jury after being injured in the line of duty.

Serpico is a retired American New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer who is famous for blowing the whistle on police corruption in the late 1960s and early 1970s, an act that compelled Mayor John V. Lindsay to appoint the landmark Knapp Commission to investigate the NYPD.

After crossing the “thin blue line” and testifying about corrupt officers involved in running guns, drugs and other illicit activity, Serpico became a target of the Blue Mafia.

Serpico was shot during a drug arrest attempt on February 3, 1971, at 778 Driggs Avenue, in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Four officers from Brooklyn North received a tip that a drug deal was about to take place.

I agree, they should be fired. There are plenty of groups in Idaho that would support them. YOHABLO Jan 2015 #8

be what we know they are now.

To be fair the brown communities knew this all along, but white folks had to be kicked and dragged to the conclusion.

Exposed what most knew or at least suspected,
that cops were called "Pigs" during 60s for a reason.

Sometimes technology really is our friend.

He cried when asked if he thought anything had changed in that corrupt department.

People often ask 'are there ANY good cops'? Yes, there are. But what happened to Serpico is what happens to those who dare to speak out.

He nearly lost his life and he was forced to resign.

Another good cop, more recently, also spoke out. He took precautions to have the evidence to prove his allegations.

He was taken from his home by a Swat Team and deposited in a Psych Ward.

An 'internal investigation' supposedly took place after he was able to provide TAPE RECORDINGS to prove his allegations.

Not sure what happened with that. He, otoh, is no longer a member of the NYPD.

WE need to support the good cops. But do we?

If it were a Republican mayor and a Democratic union, the insubordination and conduct unbecoming of an officer would NEVER be tolerated.

They need retrained in all the basic lessons of manners, how to treat your boss, etiquette, communication, citizen engagement, and how to do takedowns without damaging people.

It's totally effing possible to subdue anyone twice your size, if you know how to use their weight against them. I could do it and I weighed 120 in the 70's. Fuck those nightsticks and tazers. We took down mental patients having psychotic breaks and we got them into full leather restraints without hurting them. Or at least we tried our best. These cops are animals. Rude, ruthless rogue animals. They are the criminals.

Yes. I know I'm ranting. It makes me stark raving mad!!!!
