Senator Bob Graham Slams the Non-Release of 28 Pages of 9-11 Report

By David William Pear

Retired Senator Bob Graham has not been sitting in his rocking chair since his retirement from the Senate in 2005. He has been working tirelessly trying to get out the word on what really led up to the attack on the United States of America on September 11, 2001.

And he should know. He served for ten years on the Senate Intelligence Committee, and was the Chairman of it at the time of the 9-11 attack. After the 9-11 attack, he was the Chairman of the "Commission on the Prevention of WMD Proliferation and Terrorism" known as the Graham/Talent WMD Commission. It was the follow up commission to "The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States", known as the 9-11 Commission.

Now Senator Bob Graham is putting on a full-court press to get the redacted 28 pages of the 9-11 Commission released to the public by President Obama. The public report of the 9-11 Commission was released on December 02, 2002. After the report had been cleared by every government agency involved, President Bush's White House yanked out a full chapter before authorizing its release. Those 28 pages are suspected of revealing that Saudi Arabia was involved in the financing and aiding of at least some of the 9-11 hijackers.

<snip>

Senator Bob Graham also says that both the Bush and Obama administrations are guilty of a pattern of a cover up of not just the 28 redacted pages, but also of other information that the public has a need to know in order to prevent future attacks. Here are his words:

"And let me say, while the 28 pages are maybe the most important and the most prominent, they are by no means the only example of where information that is important to understanding the full extent of 9/11 have also been withheld from the American people"...... [there has been] "a pattern of cover-up, that for 12 years, has kept the American people from a full understanding, of the most horrific attack against the United States in its history (HERE )."

<snip>

Senator Bob Graham says that the Saudi's had a network of spies operating in the US that aided the 9-11 terrorists. He says that they may have given aid and comfort to others and maybe even to all of the hijackers. Senator Graham says that Saudi Arabia still has a network of spies operating in the US, that they may be aiding terrorists within the US now and in the future.

Senator Bob Graham knows of what he speaks. He is a very well respected Senator and someone who is thoughtful, thorough and cautious about what he says publicly. He would not make such statements unless he had hard evidence. He undoubtedly has the evidence of which he speaks.

The public report of the 9/11 Comission contradicts Graham's assertions regarding the 28 redacted pages:

It does not appear that any government other than the Taliban financially supported al Qaeda before 9/11, although some governments may have contained al Qaeda sympathizers who turned a blind eye to al Qaeda's fundraising activities. 121 Saudi Arabia has long been considered the primary source of al Qaeda funding, but we have found no evidence that the Saudi government as an institution or senior Saudi officials individually funded the organization. (This conclusion does not exclude the likelihood that charities with significant Saudi government sponsorship diverted funds to al Qaeda.)12

Still, al Qaeda found fertile fund-raising ground in Saudi Arabia, where extreme religious views are common and charitable giving was both essential to the culture and subject to very limited oversight.123 Al Qaeda also sought money from wealthy donors in other Gulf states

Considerably more nuanced and qualified than what Graham is claiming.

Also, I'm not sure how helpful the constant demonization of Saudi Arabia by Americans (many of whom know little about the country-let alone its history or the modern context) is:

Many educated Saudis who were sympathetic to America now perceive the United States as an unfriendly state. One Saudi reformer noted to us that the demonization of Saudi Arabia in the U.S. media gives ammunition to radicals, who accuse reformers of being U.S. lackeys. Tens of thousands of Saudis who once regularly traveled to (and often had homes in) the United States now go elsewhere.17

what's in the 28 pages. I'd say the repressive, violent and abhorrent policies of Saudi Arabia is giving ammunition to those that seek to demonize that government.
