Think twice before taking your too-young-to-vaccinate babies to Disneyland.

Per NPR this morning: "patient zero" of the recent measles outbreak was most likely someone not from the Western Hemisphere and from a population that is not regularly vaccinated.

So, that makes going to places with a global draw, like Disneyland, a greater risk for exposure.
I suppose the only surprise is that it hasn't happened before.

So, get your vaccinations and think carefully about taking those that cannot be vaccinated.

(Besides, who wants to deal with diapers and all that at Disneyland anyway?)

Just a friendly PSA.......

Agreed. While caring for a tiny baby is its own kind of fun, it certainly isn't "Disney" fun. Coventina Jan 2015 #3

It should be mandatory. Science deniers are unnecessarily putting innocent lives at risk.

Good point. In the times I have been to Disney World, it has been my impression that in those families with very young children, no one looks like they are having a very good time. I once saw a woman huddles in the entry way to one of the ladies' bathroom, holding bottles of ice water against the sin of her baby, who looked as if she could not have been more than about a month old. I thought, "What are you even doing here with such a young infant?"

We waited to take our sons there until they were 8 and 10 so they were both tall enough to go on all the rides. Overall, we had a great time, altho our quite competitive 10 yr old had a major meltdown when he didn't score enough points on the Toy Story ride because his electronic space gun wasn't working properly.

For the amount of money it costs to go to those parks, why waste time on frequent feedings, diaper changes, and all the rest?

For our family, the potential park-goer had to be at least potty-trained.

She was terrified of the characters. They came anywhere near her and she tried to run. Did nothing but CRY almost the entire time. My older daughter was 9 and enjoyed herself. I would wait until they are in elementary school. As you said, unless they are older they cannot go on a lot of the rides.

In June 1943, while pregnant with Daria, Tierney contracted rubella (German measles), likely from a fan ill with the disease.[11] Daria was born prematurely in Washington, D.C., weighing three pounds, two ounces (1.42 kg) and requiring a total blood transfusion. The rubella caused genetic damage: Daria was found to be deaf, partially blind with cataracts, and severely mentally disabled. She was institutionalized for much of her life.[11]

to tell parents what they should be doing with their very young children or babies, but I think it's just insane to be taking any unvaccinated person out to a crowded public place.

As far as taking babies to somewhere like Disney World or wherever, I agree that dealing with diapers and feeding and naps, etc., would tend to make what's usually a very tiring day, even under the best of circumstances, into a trip from Hell.
