For someone falsely accused, Tom Brady's incredibly uncurious. His most obvious deliberate lie:

"There's nobody I know that can answer the questions that I have."

And he says that with a remarkably flat affect, for a person who prides himself on his honesty who's suddenly living under this cloud of suspicion. Why isn't he outraged that someone has put him in this horrible position? Why isn't he searching for the answers that would clear him of involvement?

Why wasn't he saying something like: "I personally approved every one of those balls. If something happened to them after that, I want to know exactly what happened and who was responsible. And I want to know NOW, so we can put this behind us and move on."

Of course he knows the equipment manager. The equipment manager would know the answer to the questions. He'd know exactly who was responsible for the deflated balls.

But Brady doesn't want to ask the equipment manager, any more than the League wants to ask Brady. Everyone just wants the questions to go away.

Q: Have you tried to find out why the balls were under-inflated?

TB: That’s a great question. I think there are a lot of people that have more information than me. I only know what I’ve kind of gone through and the process I’ve taken as part of the game and the postgame, as well as trying to prepare for the Super Bowl. Yeah, I have questions, too. But there’s nobody that I know that can answer the questions that I have. I just have tried my best to focus on what I need to do, to be prepared for Seattle.

Brady let out of prolonged laugh, which seemed fake to me, when he was asked in that Monday interview about the issue of under-inflated footballs. With his mocking laugh and his claim that the question was the first he had ever heard of the issue, Brady tried to make his response sound like that which one might be expected to utter upon being asked about something ridiculous, such as about green Martians dancing on the goal post during the game. However, Brady is not that good of an actor. I think he was aware of the issue which had been whispered about over the course of the previous few weeks.

If he would have ranted and raged that he is innocent people would say he must be guilty, he is protesting too much. A real lose/lose situation.

-- and ranting and raging. His appropriate response would have been somewhere in between.

If he was being consistent with the man he's always presented himself as, he would be angry that someone had tampered with his balls and he'd want to know who did it and why.
