I mean Massachusetts doesn't have a single term limit. If Romney wants people to vote for him based on his leadership skills I'd like to understand why the guy didn't run for a 2nd term. I mean if the guy was doing a great job in Massachusetts and as a republican could win in such a progresive state - well why didn't he run again?
I think this needs to be discussed and understood. If there is something there then perhaps it should be shared with the voting population.

Maybe Romnay is just a good salesman. He sure can tell people what he thinks they want to hear. I just hope he isn't able to talk himself into the WH.

(95,337 posts)the re-election was 2006. He could have run and served for a year and still run for office. Better to be a governor elected twice running for office than a '1 and one' person.

(18,402 posts)Honestly, I think he's really not interested in governing itself, but just wants to check off the boxes on his resume. He'd done the corporate thing, the Olympics thing: he needed a governing thing ... so he could mark off "President of the United States" next on his checklist. He's about racking up accomplishments, like money. Or power.
That is my reasoning at least. Also, if he wanted to run in 2008 in the conservative Republican primary, he couldn't spend too long as governor of "Taxachusetts."

(3,427 posts)I'm not in Massachusetts, but my understanding is that he did not run for a second term because he wanted to run for President. That's one reason he was so unpopular by the end of his term -- he spent too much time out-of-state preparing for his presidential run.

I should ask my BIL next time I see him (he works for Romney's campaign--- yeah that makes holidays real interesting).

Romney left office with 34% approval, reelection was not going to happen.
