A point about polls.

In January of 1971(a comparable point in time to where we are now relative to 2016), virtually all published polls showed Ed Muskie with an overwhelming lead for the Democratic presidential nomination and solidly ahead of Richard Nixon.

In January of 1975, polls generally showed that either Hubert Humphrey or Ted Kennedy were overwhelmingly ahead for the Democratic presidential nomination.

In January of 1979, polls universally showed Ted Kennedy defeating Jimmy Carter for the nomination.

Polls throughout the 1985-1988 era showed Mario Cuomo way ahead for the nomination.

See where I'm going with this?
