To be be clear, I'm not defending Joni and her folksy, hypocritical diatribe. Nor the complex and often dysfunctional farm subsidy system.

However, FYI

-Fellow Iowa GOP Senator Charles Grassley received payments totaling $327,246 from 1995 through 2012

-Former Iowa Democratic Governor and current Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack received payments totaling $82,874 from 1995 through 2012.

-Even Carter Farms (Jimmy Carter) received payments totaling $272,288 from 1995 through 2012.

-Etc.

Environmental Working Group's 2013 update of its Farm Subsidy Database shows that 15 members of Congress or their spouses benefitted from a total of $237,921 in taxpayer-funded farm subsidy payments last year. while TeaParty Republicans like Joni have been targeting social programs that serve the poor, and use the imagery of undeserving welfare recipients to appeal to the TeaParty base.
