2. I don't follow football, but it just dawned on me

if the footballs were deflated, weren't they deflated for *both* teams? So *both* teams had the disadvantage, didn't they?

4. It's my understanding that each team brings 12 balls to the game.

The Patriots took advantage of that to provide themselves an edge.

5. but aren't both teams playing with the same ball at the same time?

How does a deflated ball provide one team with an edge over the other? There is only one ball at a time on the field. Either both are playing with the deflated ball, or both are playing with the inflated ball, no?

10. The team making an offensive drive has the advantage with an under-inflated ball because

the ball is easier to catch during a passing play and less likely to be fumbled. The team playing defense during the drive has no such advantage as the ball is not in their possession and the balls are switched out between drives.

12. so does the team making the offensive drive choose the ball to be used?

If so, maybe they shouldn't get to make the choice. Have the ball chosen by the umpire. Or mix all the balls together, so they won't know which is which.

3. Except the Patriots aren't just playing the damn game, they're cheating. They didn't earn the right

to be in the Super Bowl, they stole someone else's berth.

That being said, yes, there are bigger issues in the world and this story is being overplayed to the neglect of those issues.

6. Well, many stories kick up dust, this gives us a bench mark to measure interest

A story on underinflated footballs makes more dust than the death of a Saudi king...clearly death of king isn't too important to DU.

A story on underinflated footballs makes more dust than a story of Clinton aboard the sex plane...clearly Clinton's rides isn't to important on DU, although that may depend upon the meaning of isn't.

each one getting more outlandish.
hundreds (Thousands?) of reporters trying to justify their expense accounts acting as PR for the NFL.
Is there nothing else to investigate and report in this country.

Athletes have been cheating since the first guy outran the other guy. From spitting on baseballs to ingesting massive quantities of strange chemicals - anything for an edge. "Athletes Cheat" is hardly news.

How about "Republicans trying to end Social Security" or "People Starving In America." I am telling you folks there are real news stories that need to be told.
