14-year-old faces capital murder charge in baby's drowning

“The facts of the case are that the 14-year old intentionally drowned the two-month-old infant girl and that's the real tragedy,” said Dallas Police Major Robert Sherwin.

The child's biological mother is currently in jail and surrendered the child to CPS. The agency placed the baby in the home where the incident occurred at the request of the mother.

The adult female caretaker had just left for work before the drowning occurred, according to police.

I guess the infant was interfering with her Xbox playtime or something...

Not sure about trying her as an adult, though waiting for the adult in the home to leave for work before committing the murder definitely looks like premeditation...

This morning on the drive in they were reporting a baby drowned and this evening that she was charged with capital murder.

She must have indicated premeditation for them to contemplate charging her as an adult. I'm against the death penalty, but being a minor I think that's a moot point. Either way for a 14 year old to commit such a horrendous crime, she needs serious therapy. I hope she gets help while in prison.

Is it really possible to be sentenced to death for crimes committed aged 14?

Since she is a juvenile she's not eligible for the death penalty.

The state with the Express Lane Death Penalty Line; I wouldn't be surprised if the 14 yr old is sentenced to death.

Guessing here that the 14-year-old is the baby's mother. Just a guess.
