Story hereFrom the article:
A Republican congressman has been condemned for saying that he does not construe homosexual rights as human rights.
Chris Smith, who represents New Jerseys 4th district in the US House of Representatives, made the comments during Tuesdays sitting of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, a day when 12 men were reportedly arrested for attending an alleged same-sex wedding in Nigeria.

I do think that unfortunately theres been an obsession by some within the administration and that goes for the president himself to promote the abortion agenda and the LGBT agenda in our foreign policy.
These issues are what drives this administration in much of our foreign policy in Africa. Many of these countries deeply resent it because they are profoundly pro-marriage and profoundly pro-life.
But when your foreign aid is being limited or conditioned on those two issues, there are some, but thankfully not many, in these governments who begin to weaken.

(6,336 posts)Let alone he hasn't lived in NJ for years (his kids attended state schools in VA and paid in state tuition) and his 'residence' is a PO Box.
The man was first elected when I was born. The district is bright red but got slightly bluer in redistricting (gained some blue and purple towns but they're fairly small).
I joked around right after redistricting at a county Dems function that the only person that has the $$ and name ID to defeat him is Bruce Springsteen. He isn't giving up his day job (and I can't blame him).
That said I'm calling the idiot's office tomorrow. Anything I should say, post it here.

(18,643 posts)Seriously, I have no human rights because I'm gay? Throwing men off a building to their deaths is OK because they're gay?
Red or blue, D or R, there are things that are right and things that are wrong, and if you can't see that, you're heartless or stupid or both. Yeah, tell him that. And also, a big FUCK YOU from me!
You have my sympathies for being in his district. I live in GA so I know your pain even though mine is bright blue, I am surrounded by Baptist redneck Repubes.

Behind the Aegis
(53,956 posts)It is a form of dehumanization and given just a few days ago we marked the 70th anniversary of one of the largest examples of the folly of dehumanization, I find this chilling.
