Is there a national increase

in racist incidents or has it always been this bad but now the incidents are getting more press? While I think there has always been a great deal of racist activity which did not get press, it also seems that the societal muzzling of overt racism (not the elimination thereof - I'm aware that the racism has never gone away - but some recognition that some things were not appropriate to say/do in public even while still totally believing it) has gone away. It seems to me that, like the backlash against women, there has been a backlash against the (modest) gains of minority communities over the past 10 or 20 years, with some serious escalation since Obama won his first term. It all feels like part and parcel of the US decline toward fascism and a police state.
