Report: Netanyahu may have leaked US secrets to hurt Iran negotiations

1 US officials believe that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has authorized his government to release secret details of the US nuclear negotiations with Iran to the Israeli press, according to Washington Post columnist David Ignatius.

2 The alleged leaks would appear designed to undermine the negotiations, which Israel opposes.

3 In response, according to Ignatius, the US has decided to "reduce the exchange of sensitive information about the Iran talks" with Israel.

This would be a major new low in the US-Israel breakdown

It is important to note that Ignatius does not detail his sources for the story, and has no official confirmation from either the Israeli or American governments. The columnist is known as a non-partisan reporter with a strong track record and close links in US intelligence agencies, so his report is so far being taken seriously.

1. Bibi

plays and fights dirtier than most, with the exception of Putin. He will do whatever he can to facilitate the undoing of our current president... probably because Obama really isn't all about the war machine even though he is bound to it like an albatross around his neck because he IS president. And I am pretty sure there are dark, shadowy government types holding a gun to his head if he tried to rebel.

Bibi has had nothing but contempt for the president since he got elected.

is longer and more arduous, but it's a surer way of reaching one's destination.

Too late for him, really--he's taken the hardliner road and is unlikely to ever change.

it all away with his hardline craziness.

His English language skills are impeccable (those years in public school in Pennsylvania and at MIT, etc. in Boston will do that I guess)--he can converse in both US and British vernacular, down to slang. He is a handsome fellow; he looks good on TV. He can project a real earnestness that is initially compelling.

Thing is, though, when people see all the crazy crap spewing out of his mouth, all of the gains he had earned from his conversational skills, good looks and easy mannerisms just go out the window.

He LOOKS reasonable, but he talks like a flipping KOOK.

They also leak to Jeffrey Goldberg. Edit to add: Ignatius is a neocon asshole who continually steers the WaPo in that direction. While he usually gets scoops, his foreign policy analysis is predictably stupid.

The alleged leaks are, to be clear, not highly sensitive secrets. Rather, they are technical details of the US offers to Iran in the nuclear talks, such as the number of centrifuges that Iran would be allowed to maintain.

Exactly why is America giving details of any negotiations to a foreign country? Oh that's right US foreign policy is to be written in Tel Aviv.

How dare netanyahu presume he can push us around, or push our President around!!! Doesn't matter what you think of him, bibi. He IS our President and you're just gonna have to suck on that and figure out a way to be okay with it. Unless, of course, you lose your upcoming election (hopefully). He's acting like a true republi-CON. Lying, cheating, not playing fair, not a team player, and definitely not to be trusted. He's no friend. And he's not treating our country as one at the moment, either. bibi forgets - he needs us WAY more than we need him.

THIS is how you treat a friend, asshole?

Declassify the AMIA files. Now.

For those unfamiliar with the controversy, I'm referring to 1994 AMIA (Jewish Community Center) bombing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as the one at the Israeli Embassy in 1992. The very first forensic tests in each case conclusively found them to be inside jobs using bombs detonated from within the buildings.

The fact remains that despite every effort to pin them on Iran (including witness and evidence tampering, bribery, and fabrications so blatant, the judge on the case was impeached) no evidence has been found of such involvement in 20 years, not by the Argentines, the U.S., Israel, INTERPOL, or anyone else (https://consortiumnews.com/2015/02/07/a-rush-to-judgment-in-argentine-bomb-case/). Interpol, in fact, ruled out Iranian complicity a decade ago already.

The problem with Israel is purely one of leadership; but impunity makes the problem possible to begin with. Moderate Israelis have no chance against monsters like Bibi when the media - and rigid U.S. policy - gives them cover no matter how brazen they get. Obviously they don't even respect the U.S. anymore, high-handedly waving aside even the meekest Obama administration requests for restraint - not to mention inviting himself to address Congress (to show the U.S. "who's the boss&quot and of course these latest revelations.

A simple thing like declassifying the AMIA files - and possibly others, such as the London Embassy bomb just days after AMIA - would change all that. Since the goal of the bombings was to derail Prime Minister Rabin and the Peace Process itself, Bibi would have the most to lose if they were ever declassified. He owes his impressive career to their derailment, and of course shares the government with the very same Israeli far-right that benefited (and probably planned) the bombings - as well as the murder of Prime Minister Rabin.

Doing so would then not only bring the perpetrators to justice, above all it would make Israel itself a much better country.

Come to think of it, he does look like Rodney - from some hellish parallel universe.

Why, the last time Bibi went to the psychiatrist, he told him he was crazy. Naturally Bibi wanted a second opinion.

So he said "okay, you're ugly too."

If Rouhani distored and leaked equivalent information about Israel, then Boehner et al would already be calling for carpet-bombing of Tehran.

But it's ok if you're Bibi, I suppose.

but if the secret is he was allowing Iran more freedom than they were planning to reveal that is underwhelming. Just when I was reading about (article from 2008) US blocking the prosecutions of the major international black market nuclear dealer.

Israel probably has far more nuclear secrets regarding itself than anyone.

Not surprising. If you look at it, Israel is one of the top offenders of espionage against the U.S. Not just against the government but against industry as well.

Tell me how many of our other allies have people in US prison that have spied for them.
