Arrest Made (Darryl Ferguson) in Islamic Center Fire in SE Houston—Press conference at 6 p.m.

Houston fire officials say there's been an arrest in the fire that broke out last week at the Islamic community and education center in southeast Houston.

The Houston Fire Department is planning a press conference around 6pm tonight to give us more details about the suspect and charges.

Investigators said an accelerant was used in the Friday morning fire at the Quba Islamic Institute. The Council on American-Islamic Relations is calling on state and federal authorities to investigate the fire as a possible hate crime.

That call comes as Ahsan Zahid, assistant Imam at the institute, says he spoke with the Houston arson investigator about their preliminary results.

From press conference:

***Suspected on Saturday, has criminal history, confessed to crime during voluntary interview. Lives near the center. Right now, the officer can't go into details. Older gentleman. Officer didn't have his exact age, but he's around 55. He gave an admission and he gave his reason.

Felony first-degree arson.

When questioned on whether this was going to be transferred to a federal court: "I can't answer that right now."

When they were looking for him, he bike rode up and said he would talk to them.
