‘Spocking’ Nimoy onto Canadian bills popular with ‘Star Trek’ fans, illogical to central bank

Canadian “Star Trek” fans have taken to “Spocking” Leonard Nimoy’s visage onto bills following the actor’s death — to the chagrin of the nation’s central bank.

After Nimoy died Feb. 27 at the age of 83, fans started changing former Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier image into the famous Vulcan. Canada’s central bank said the gesture wasn’t illegal but ill-advised.

“Writing on a bank note may interfere with the security features and reduces its lifespan. Markings on a note may also prevent it from being accepted in a transaction,” bank spokeswoman Josianne Menard said Tuesday, The New York Daily News reported

The newspaper reported that “Spocking” may have been started by a tweet from The Canadian Design, which shared a perfected example on its social media pages.
