Orange County attorney has filed a 'Sodomite Suppression Act' with the penalty of death attached
You can go to snopes if you want but this, sadly, is very true.
An Orange County, Calif., attorney has filed a proposed ballot measure with the California Attorney Generals office asking voters to criminalize homosexuality in the state and impose a death penalty sentence.
The filing, submitted along with the required fee of $200, will allow attorney Matthew G. McLaughlin to begin the process of collecting the approximately 365,000 signatures needed to put the measure before California voters on an upcoming ballot, reports Raw Story.
There are other insane tidbits in the filingthings like one million dollar fines and bullet executions. You can read his filing as a pdf, here. It will make you angry and sad but, alternately it may make you laugh.
You get classic bigoted terms from yesteryear, plus bonus terms and phrases you may have never even thought you would ever hear like:
"Buggery"
"Sodomistic propaganda"
"Seeing that it is better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God's just wrath against us for the folly of tolerating-wickedness in our midst."
He references Sodom and Gomorrha which, as we all know, is God's great victory over homosexualitysuch a decisive victory that there has been no homosexuality ever since, unabated, forever. The lgbtnation article goes on to say [bold my emphasis]:
Little is known about the petitioner or if his filing is on behalf of a client.

(2,560 posts)A few days ago, someone posted a link (I think on DU) on youtube to a guy burning a rainbow flag. I went to have a look and saw the had posted a couple of dozen times in the previous two days (and probably further back)!! Almost half of them were gay-hatred posts. I made a comment on the flag burning video pointing this out to him and asking if he had something he wanted to say. When I checked back a little later, he had removed and disabled comments on seemingly all his videos and had added a note to say he had been attacked by a cyberstalker. I don't know that I was the "cyberstalker", but the timing was pretty indicative.

(9,154 posts)Maybe someone should file a, "Get out of our bedrooms, pervert" Act.
The crap about Sodom and Gomorrha being about homosexuals is sort of laughable, I think the reason people who read a King James version believe that it's about homosexuals is the name itself. It reminds of sodomy and gonorrhea, thus suggesting homosexual relations and disease, while the text itself says no such thing. The story was basically about residents rioting and heterosexual rape.

(113,302 posts)Even if McLaughlin succeeds in collecting the required signatures, and even if the intiative then passes at the polls, the proposal still will never become law. For one, a California judge declared in 2014 that the state death penalty law was unconstitutional. McLaughlin, however, argues that California should make an exception for homosexuals:
"This law is effective immediately and shall not be rendered ineffective or invalidated by any court, state or federal, until heard by a quorum of the Supreme Court of California consisting only of judges who are neither sodomites nor subject to disqualification hereunder."

Buddy, it doesn't work that way. Even if you killed off every other male on the planet, gay or straight, you'd still be lusting after them in your dreams.
Freud put forth the theory and the U of GA confirmed it. Now can we all say "latent?"

(131 posts)So, let me see if I understand this. You can do something like this and still keep your license to practice law in California? In CALIFORNIA?
What's it like in less "enlightened" states? I guess being rational isn't a prerequisite in California.
I think maybe it's time that we as a species quit picking on people who happen to be different in some way and start worrying about stuff like major cities running out of drinking water.
But then, maybe I'm an idiot. Maybe we should be howling about which e-mail Hillary used and ignoring things like Antarctic ice melt and what it might mean. Perhaps my priorities are all screwed up. I did suffer a nasty head injury. Maybe the bullshit really is the important stuff, and I'm just quibbling over minor issues.
I think I'll go on over to my favorite news site and see what the Kardashians and Lindsey Lohan are up to lately. Surely that must be important and deserve more page space than the stuff that I think matters.

(42,702 posts)Matthew McLaughlin is a graduate of UCLA-Irvine and the George Mason School of Law in Fairfax VA. Eleven years ago he came up with a ballot initiative proposal that would have required the placement of the King James bible in the curriculum of California public schools. My understanding is that he failed to get the required signatures to get that proposal on the ballot -- and he's highly unlikely to be any more successful this time.
Once an idiot. Always an idiot.

(41,980 posts)What a Fuckerhead. If he's going on about sodomy-- the definition including cunnilingus in a state or two--he should get it right
In current usage, the term is particularly used in law. Laws prohibiting sodomy were seen frequently in past Jewish, Christian, and Islamic civilizations, but the term has little modern usage outside Africa, Islamic countries, and the United States.[9] In the various criminal codes of the U.S., the term sodomy has generally been replaced by the term deviant sexual intercourse, which is described as any form of penetrative intercourse or cunnilingus between unmarried persons.[10] These laws have been challenged and have sometimes been found unconstitutional or been replaced with different legislation.[11] Elsewhere, the legal use of the term sodomy is restricted to rape cases where anal penetration has taken place.[12]

(50,557 posts)Since the Democratic Party "espouses sodomistic propaganda" in these guys' view, this proposal bans the Democratic Party within the state of California.
and the VERY best part:
This ballot measure effectively repeals Section 187 of the California Penal Code on November 8, 2017. Since "he was a sodomite" would be an absolute defense against murder and you KNOW the state of California isn't going to start shooting gays in the head, this proposal would allow you to kill anyone you don't like, claim they're gay, and walk free!
