ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) A Florida family judge will hear Rep. Alan Grayson's charge that his wife committed bigamy and decide whether their 24-year marriage should be annulled.
A trial on whether the marriage was legitimate opens Monday in an Orlando courtroom.
Grayson says his wife, Lolita, was still married to another man when she and the multimillionaire congressman married in 1990 in Virginia. But Lolita Grayson says she divorced Robert Carson in 1981 in Guam.
Besides the bigamy allegation, the lead-up to Monday's trial includes accusations by Lolita Grayson that her estranged husband pushed her and that he has failed to maintain their Orlando house and support their children. There was also a delay caused by Lolita Grayson's leaky breast implant, and she has had a revolving door of attorneys.

(20,317 posts)This is a pretty gross smear of a prominent liberal Congressman.
Please explain how this is a smear and how it impacts the not yet announced Clinton campaign.
Right from the headline, it's painting Grayson as some kind of wealthy, vindictive miser, angling to kick his poor, innocent wife to the curb.

(60,536 posts)but, isn't Grayson "angling to kick his poor, innocent wife to the curb?" Do you prefer the story of the ongoing proceedings not be covered at all by the media? You still haven't told me how the yet to be announced Clinton campaign is involved in this.

(20,317 posts)party unity, it's their promotion of these kinds of stories that make those demands ring so hollow.
This is a tabloidy, slanted article that paints Grayson as some kind of Dickensian villain, and you know it.

(60,536 posts)Don't tell me what you think I'm supposed to "know." I've been involved in politics for over 50 years, your comment has to rank right up there as one of the most ludicrous comments from a Democrat I've ever heard or read.

(20,317 posts)Can you explain the significance of the word "multimillionaire" in that headline, if it's not meant to paint Grayson as a kind of a vindictive, miserly bully?
DonViejo
(60,536 posts)the word is used to describe his financial standing. Next question?

(20,317 posts)Why was Grayson's financial standing deemed relevant, if the intention was not to paint him as some sort of vindictive, miserly bully?

(16,373 posts)Whether or not there was a prenuptial agreement or a not-really divorced ex-husband, there are kids involved and a lot of money at stake. The whole case is a fight between the two parties over money.
I'd much prefer that he wasn't trying to get out of the marriage by blaming her for possible though somewhat unlikely and long-ago bigamy. I like Grayson politically, but this kind of behavior toward his wife and the mother of his children is deeply troublesome to me.
