Are Minority Group Leaders Doing The Best For Their Constiuencies?......

There is an opportunity in both Chicago and Ferguson to change the dynamic by voting in public officials that can and will actually help the People. The first tendency by the minority group leaders in the community usually is to organize protests. Protests are ok but they are up against the establishment and though some lip service is paid to the protesters to appease them - change comes at a real slow pace.

I read this a.m. that Mayor 1% Rahm has taken a double digit lead over Chuy. This was from a Chicago Tribune poll. Though Chuy has - over the last week - a number of key endorsements from notables such as Jesse Jackson and Howard Dean - Chuy is still trailing.

What needs to happen is that the minority group leaders need to organize in the communities and put on a massive education and vote registration drive. Get the people educated on voting. Let them know that their one vote counts and that they are in striking distance to unseat Rahm to get some real change in Chicago. Change would come at a faster pace if you have the right people in government - elected by the people that are traditionally appeased and neglected by the likes of establishment candidates like Rahm.

The alternative is to let Rahm win because of voter apathy and then during his next term - again organize 'go nowhere' protests.

There is a perfect opportunity in Chicago for the People to finally get someone in office that will serve their needs and not the needs of the 1%.

The same goes for Ferguson. All that energy being expended having the people protest night after night - will get some action - but again at a slower pace than could happen if they had public officials in office that would serve their needs - a Mayor, a police force, a government. They can take control of their city if they get the people of Ferguson educated on the power of their vote and get them registered and to the voting booth in the next elections.

Their is an opportunity for the People to seize the day here and the minority group leaders need to put their efforts in GOTV vs organizing protests. This goes for the minority talking heads on the cable news shows too. They need to encourage voter registration in the neighborhoods versus running around the country and joining protests. They should know better.

That's my rant for today.
