Jerry Brown ran against Bill Clinton in the 1992 Democratic primaries. Now he doesnt think anyone should run against Hillary Clinton when she seeks the nomination next year.
I cant think of anything Id rather have less if I were running for president than to have a competitor in the primary, the California governor said, speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday afternoon following a series of meetings with staff about climate change.
...
The primaries get into all the little nuances and small differences of candidates of the same party, Brown said. What Hillary needs is a good debate drawing the distinctions between where she stands and where all these Republicans, these wannabes running around.

I don't necessarily agree with him, anybody can run if they want to, but I love my governor. Having lived in FL under the gubernatorial control of clowns like Bob Martinez, Jeb Bush, and Rick Scott I love living in L A , a Democratic city, in a Democratic region, in a Democratic state.
It's like Florida, with less humidity, mountains, and cooler politics.
I was too young to vote but I supported him in 1976 when he was a late entry into the Democratic race.

Coronations suck. People promoting them suck even more.

(196 posts)You are right, we need a good primary, it keeps everyone honest.. Brown is popular here, he has a deft hand with the legislature and his "tight fisted" fiscal policies have done the state well.

(1,713 posts)The Democratic Party nomination is Hillary's own personal property, to be disposed of as she sees fit. How dare anyone attempt to introduce a democratic process to upset the apple cart?

(1,713 posts)At no time will I ever assert that she doesn't have the right to run for office, unless of course she gets convicted of a felony in which case applicable legal barriers would apply.
On the contrary, I wholeheartedly agree that she should run. A second rejection of her candidacy will put the final stake in her ambition to rule over us and cement the New American Aristocracy.

(1,713 posts)From my point of view that's like asking if I would support Jeb Bush.
If she's our nominee, I am writing in Warren or Sanders or some other name. I will not be conned or coerced or pressured into supporting a candidate who is guaranteed to sell us all out to the highest bidder and to make her primary use of the office of President as a vehicle for personal enrichment.
People who support Hillary will need to figure in their calculations the significant number of Democrats who will bail if asked to support someone so wholly opposed to our interests. The only actual argument given for her is that "she can win" - well, I don't think she can, because she can't turn out the base.

(1,713 posts)So... now her supporters are going to make the argument that we have to line up behind her.
100% typical of the raging hypocrisy necessary to stomach her candidacy
Interviewer: You don't buy the party unity argument?
Hillary Clinton: No, I don't
That's of course only the second most controversial thing she said in that 84-second clip, the first being the "Will no one rid me of this troublsome bishop?" open plea for someone to take out Obama so that she could be the nominee.

Nice try but epic fail.

I have news for you, "the base" will turn out. Those threatening to do otherwise are not the base, never were...

(8,545 posts)I don't believe in coronations, but I don't think we will get a better general election candidate than Hillary.
I think the point Brown is making is that the difference between Hillary and another Dem candidate will be small compared with the difference between Hillary and any one of the current or future Republican candidates.
Frankly, I am tired of those people who do their best to defeat good Dems because those Dems don't agree with them on every issue. I remember all too well how so many DUers thought that Obama would do everything just the way they wanted. I knew that was not realistic. I didn't agree with Obama on everything when I voted for him and I don't agree with him on everything now, but I still support him.
Any of you who are hyper critical of Obama should think about what life would have been like under President McCain.
Come to think of it, think of all the dead and crippled people in this country and in Iraq who would be alive and whole if we had had President Gore instead of President Bush. I know, I know, there are those who think President Nader was the answer, but that was never going to happen.
