Aaron Schock demonstrates how not to resign from Congress

The Washington Post:

Note to soon-to-be-former-Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.): You cannot say you resign from Congress with "humility" and then, in the same speech, compare yourself to Abraham Lincoln.

And yet, that's what Schock has done, noting Thursday that the former president who once held his congressional seat also faced trials and tribulations. (We're guessing Lincoln's had little to do with Downton Abbey and a Justice Department investigation. Though he did have his own mileage problems!)

Here's the offending quote, courtesy of Post Politics:

"I also know that every person faces adversity in life. Abraham Lincoln held this seat in Congress in one term. But few faced as many defeats in his personal, business and public life as he did," Schock said. "His continual perseverance in the face of these trials — never giving up — is something all of us Americans should be inspired by, especially when going through a valley in life."

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), who lost his congressional reelection bid to Democrat Patrick Murphy, said Friday that his recent defeat does not mean his political career is over, pointing out that Abraham Lincoln only served one term in Congress.

During an interview with NPR, host Michel Martin asked the often outspoken congressman what he intends to do after he leaves office, just two years after his 2011 debut on Capitol Hill.

"Look, you know, God closes a door so that he can open up greater doors. I will continue to, you know, stand up and fight for this country. That's my goal," West said. "And always remember, Abraham Lincoln only served one term in Congress, too."

Jackson Jr. is in the process of getting out of jail - now going to a halfway house - and the commotion here around this story in Chicago by the local news media is abuzz. Jackson's comment I heard last night is that he is asking We The People of Illinois for a second chance.

Because he has such charisma - you know We The People of Illinois - especially in Chicago will give him that second chance.

Schock has that same charisma - and in a few years We The People will also be hearing back from him.

It reminds me of that famous G.W.Bush quote - something about fooling me once........
