Here's the link to the Seattle Times poll on the TPP following the Wikileaks revelation on the investor-state dispute resolution tribunal:
Vote: Thumbs up or down for the Trans-Pacific Partnership
After a secret chapter was leaked from the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership. Has it changed your opinion of the deal?

Currently the total show 89% opposed, (5% want more information, 3% favor, 2% favor but have concerns.)

(94,520 posts)....in term of gauging actual opinion. Getting excited because you're "winning" is probably counterproductive if you want to stop TPP, because it's reflective of only the small sample of self-selecting readers in a progressive enclave. I suspect the average person in the US knows very little about TPP and has no opinion about it whatsoever, so if you want to scuttle the deal, you'd better hold onto the mindset that you have your work cut out for you.

(54,770 posts)at this point it's stupid not to lay out the reasons he thinks it is good for us. If there are good reasons, people should hear them at this point.
Trade is extremely complicated, even more so when trade agreements are part of attempting to improve relations with other countries and solidify relations long-term.

(51,907 posts)Only 5 of 29 articles deal with tariffs and actual trade related issues. The rest of it is about "investors' righta" Well, fuck investors. If they make less than they wanted to make, tough shit.

(54,770 posts)their country.. That's why they are attempting to draft a good agreement for everyone..
Are you against foreign countries coming here, you have any idea how many people are employed by foreign companies that have INVESTED here? . I'm sure Vietnamese would like better jobs too?
There are sections on workers' right, environmental issues, etc. I guess you consider that Bull Crud too?

(51,907 posts)They'll keep investing if they think they can make money--fuck 'em if they want to sue to get even more money. (McDonalds stays in Denmark even though they have to pay their workers $21/hr, right?) In all other trade agreements, the environment and workers' rights provision have been a joke.

(54,770 posts)similar fast food restaurants pay, under trade agreements similar to TPP. That doesn't bother me.
BTW- Denmark is pretty much my idea of Eldorado.

(51,907 posts)--if there is still a profit opportunity for investing they'll do it.

(50,983 posts)We do not want another trade deal of any kind. Period. We could care less about solidifying long-term relations with other countries. Especially when these relations would result in the suffering of indigenous populations at their and our expense.
We have cut through the bullshit. Too many lies for too long.

(54,770 posts)I think it's time we stop acting like the 1%ers from a poor Mexican or Vietnamese's viewpoint.. It'll be good for everyone, especially if we make those who profit here pay decent wages and taxes to for education, healthcare, job training or guaranteed income for those whose skills are no longer in demand, etc.

(55,981 posts)I think this poll in meaningful. The Seattle Times is a conservative paper and I am surprised they would post anything about the TPP let alone a poll with such results. Those that will tell you that we aren't seeing a Populist Movement beginning, have their heads in the sand.

will make all the people of the planet middle class citizens, surely we can halt all USA FOREIGN AID.
Rigged trade is the answer, they say, not cash giveaways to other nations. We can divert these giveaways to USA indebted students and raise their standards to the middle class too.
