You can't imagine how pleased I was to learn about this stranger's survival.

A tip of my hat to you sir!

(18,791 posts)I get an annual (required) refresher of CPR, with or without an AED.
The changes made a few years ago are still "difficult" for me to mentally adjust to, after years of the old system...bottom line though, quick action, call for help and circulate the oxygen.
I've only done breathing once, many years ago...unfortunately he did not survive.

(17,997 posts)For you, that's all that matters. Good for you!
I can't recall if there is still a call for breaths with 2 people, and, if so, at what count?
Thank you

(1,397 posts)I'm an Advanced Life Support EMT in a rural Virginia county. We teach CPR, use of the AED, and basic first aid once a month and always have 10 - 30 local folks in the class.
EVERYONE who has received CPR training needs to get at least one of these sets -- get it from Amazon:
Adult & Infant CPR Mask Combo Kit with 2 Valves, MCR Medical
It's a small zipper bag (or hard case) with two CPR masks -- adult and child -- with mouthpiece valves. Place the mask tightly over the mouth and nose and blow through the one-way valve -- tilt the head back and pull the chin down to open the airway, blow and watch for chest rise.
I have a dozen or so of these sets -- all over the place, in all my vehicles with my medic bags, at home, etc.
Here are some YouTube videos with instructions for using the CPR mask:

(108,192 posts)Statistically CPR is often unsuccessful. Success rate depends on how soon administered and how much force is used in chest compressions.
