11. As a 19-year-old Army 2nd LT at Ft Jackson, SC, I was on red alert for riot duty in Chicago

Leading our contingency riot control squad was one of the 36 "additional duties" I had whlle serving as Executive Officer of the post's Special Troops company and we were on 24-hour alert to deploy there.

It's a good thing they didn't send us, though, as all of our training had been for Vietnam and we had zero training in civilian riot control. And some damn fool idiot probably would have issued us live ammo.

12. Your story probably needs to become part of the 'history' of the time. I did not

realize that the U.S. military had any possible plans to intervene in the events of Chicago '68 (and I think your deployment there would have represented a blatant violation of posse comitatus), Even though you were only 19, I strongly suspect your unit had far more fire discipline than Daley's pigs (based upon the judiciousness of your posts here). That was truly a 'police riot,' a harbinger of Ferguson 2014.
