Hillary will make a great President

(140 posts)Once she has been nominated, IF she is nominated, party discipline should kick in. Lack of party discipline is a major factor in why the Democrats are in the fix they're in today.

I think that, if anyone can, she might be able to get "single payer" a reality.

I was "ok" with either Obama or Hillary as a candidate.
NancyDL
(140 posts)BUT, if you want single payer, you will have to elect a whole bunch of Democrats - and Democrats who will toe the party line on important issues - REAL Democrats. This will require lots of votes and lots of workers helping to get out the vote.

(1,820 posts)Play better with her than they have with Obama? If I remember correctly they spent 8 years frothing at the mouth over Bill and he was a white male. They will try to minimize her at every step because she is female and we will have 8 more years of the same crap.

(6,409 posts)I'm tempted to think Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren would be better, but neither of them could get elected, because the so-called liberal media would portray them as dreamy, unrealistic left-wingers. Clinton will certainly, without any doubt at all, be a better president than anyone on the Republican horizon.

(11,417 posts)primary. I think it was that point in time that this board became so uncivil. I think old wounds heal slow so there probably are Hillary antagonists from back in 2008 with a lot more shit to fling her way.
We all got behind Barack Obama when he won the nomination so I think we only have until the end if the primaries to read the anti Hillary stuff.
I do think some if her best times were when she stood her ground after the Monica thing. She was magnificent then.

(140 posts)I'm also new, and I've been quite dismayed by the tone of the discussions. I was wondering if that was because people like to come to this site when they are already in a bad mood, or if reading a post or two from all the nattering nabobs of negativity riles the blood.

(71,265 posts)We have a diversity of opinion here and many that want a different choice than Hillary do make their case in a reasonable way. Debate is what this place is for.
Sometimes people get frustrated and it shows. Sometimes people are trolling and it shows.
But most members here who want a different choice than Hillary are good posters who make their arguments and welcome debate.
No one is perfect. I have my faults.
Welcome to DU and consider posting in the Hillary Clinton Room which is for her supporters only. http://election.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1107

(7,596 posts)At least, I've never been impressed with her. Not in 2007 and not now.
There are currently 44 Democratic senators and 18 Democratic governors and that's not even including the number of former senators and governors. I'm sure many of them have much better records than Hillary when it comes to progressive issues and have displayed far superior judgment to her on issues that really matter, like the IWR.
So all this stuff about her being our best candidate or the only candidate who can win is simply nonsense. The only thing she has going for her is that, for some asinine reason, practically everyone in the Democratic party is completely unwilling to challenge her. I guess she is the best candidate if she's going to be the only damn one. It's appalling to see.

(31,464 posts)First let me say, the Republicans have no intention of being civil towards any Democratic president. They feel they OWN the government, and will be mean and nasty to whomever we elect. That said, they're going to be smarting for a long time over this whole black president thing. But...but...now a WOMAN! Oh, the horror. And a woman named Clinton, no less. They impeached her husband and failed miserably. They'll be like bratty little children who don't their way. I mean, even moreso than now. I think the right will view a woman president, on the heels of that horrible black man, to be too much to handle. Governance will not get any better than it is now.
UNLESS we all get our asses out to vote, not just for Hillary (or whomever the Dem nominee) but a straight blue ticket. We need to get the obstructionist assholes out of Congress, out of the Senate, or else we'll be no better off. The GOP has no intention of going gently into the night.

(81,874 posts)Glad you're here! No one's gonna tell you to shut up! They may argue with you but they won't tell you to shut up. It's just one of those things! You won't get any argument from me. I've admired her since I first heard about her. I remember the night Clinton won. I was so impressed that, for the first time in MY life, I had a First Lady-Elect to whom I could actually relate. We were both working moms, we were both more or less the same age. We were both committed activists. There were times when we both had bigger paychecks than our husbands did. We both had a daughter (I have a son, too but our daughter got here first). I liked her then. I still like her now. For all her faults (and she's just another fallible human being like the rest of us), ON HER WORST DAY she's lightyears better than anybody on that other side of the aisle can ever even hope to be, on his OR her best day. Besides, I vote for Supreme Court pickers.

(69 posts)For many, there are certain litmus tests that reveal the 'value' of the candidate.
Things like
1. Do you support the corporate state agenda, e.g., the TPP? (HRC would likely say yes)
2. Do you support the national security state and its violence as a foreign policy? (yes)
3. Do you support policies & programs needed to truly combat climate change? (no)
4. Do you support breaking up the mega-banks and a securities transaction tax? (no!)
5. Do you support increasing Social Security payments, decreasing SS taxes to 1980 levels? (uhh)
6. Do you support having a prison population that is now over 1 million people? (yes)
7. etc
Can we truly afford another 8 years of stalling? Of run-around?
Bill Clinton perfected the run-around, and it was called "small-ball" remember?
Why should we think we'll get *anything* that is different from Bill's "small-ball"?
Here's the core argument.
Noone is saying that HRC is a change-agent --- she's *all about* continuity.
However we desperately NEED a change-agent now, right now, to play "big-ball".
She's wrong for the times, is all.

(22,666 posts)Other Dems here and elsewhere should do the same (ie: vote for Hillary or whomever the Dem nominee is). Else, we can be absolutely assured of losing.
United, we at least have a chance to win.
Divided (ie: protest votes for non-nominees, non-voting, etc. because our preferred candidate didn't get the nomination) we assuredly WILL lose.
If a Republican wins in 2016, it will be an absolute disaster for this country and most people in it. How dumb do you have to be to not recognize that?
People seem to forget this.
Is Hillary perfect? NO. Neither is Obama. Likely none of them will be.
Democrats sometimes fail at the one thing Republicans are consistently very good at: Republicans turn out in droves to vote for their nominee. Every. Time.
We can either do the same -- or LOSE. It's that simple.
