And I'm personally sick of seeing it.
It's a shortcut to thinking. If you deploy it, doing so makes you look like an idiot.
It's not "hate." It's honest disagreement based on legitimate reasons.
It's debate.
If you can't handle it, go find another hobby.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize Clinton, but her hair, or a picture, or her logo, or whatever else - people are just looking for reasons to criticize at that point.

Like you, I have no problem debating and seeing both defenders and detractors. That's what DU is for. But when some here claim "HATE" for the candidate without offering a reason why they would, well, it is inexplicable to me.

(57,936 posts)DU is traditionally a pretty sophisticated forum. We expect a certain ability on posters' parts to defend what they claim they believe.
It's that simple.
It's not hate. It's debate.
As a country, we need to aspire to the be the very best society we can be. That's the goal.
On DU, debate, discussion, listening, paying attention, learning, being willing to change an opinion and then being willing to work to change our society for the better.
Those are the means to our goal.

...thus totally ignoring support for Warren.
Or, if you are against the TPP that means you are an isolationist who doesn't believe we should have trade with ANY country. Or worse, you are an anti-capitalist and that's that's akin to a commie so you probably worship Satan too.

(29,414 posts)late 14c., "one who hates, an enemy," agent noun from hate (v.).
hate (v.)
Old English hatian "to hate," from Proto-Germanic *haton (cognates: Old Saxon haton, Old Norse hata, German hassen, Gothic hatan "to hate" , from PIE root *kad- "sorrow, hatred" (cognates: Avestan sadra- "grief, sorrow, calamity," Greek kedos "care, trouble, sorrow," Welsh cas "pain, anger" . Related: Hated; hating. French haine (n.), hair (v.) are Germanic. Hate crime attested from 1988.
hate (n.)
Old English hete "hatred, spite," from Proto-Germanic *hatis- (cognates: Old Norse hattr, Old Frisian hat, Dutch haat, Old High German has, German Hass, Gothic hatis; see hate (v.)). Altered in Middle English to conform with the verb. Hate mail is first attested 1967.
With that kind of history, I'd say "hater" has a legitimate use on DU, unlike "woo" which is an onomatopoeia word for a sound.

(12,530 posts)And the word "methinks" gets double billing as both the second dumbest goddamned word on DU and as the number one most-used-for-no-reason archaic word. Also, going undercover at FR to report back here is the twelfth dumbest action taken by the set of DUers with more than five years of membership under the belt.

(11,109 posts)Remember how we used to pulverize them because they followed in lockstep and seem to not think for themselves? Remember all the.... How can they blindly follow.... remarks?
There may be a few exceptions, but I rather doubt that most DUers who don`t support Hillary actually hate her. Hillary Clinton isn`t my favorite candidate, but I certainly don`t hate her. I didn`t support her when she ran against President Obama and I`m a bit cautious about jumping on her band wagon now.
I`m not crazy about Trial Balloon Candidates, who have to "focus group" logos, changes in positions, ideas. I prefer someone genuine who behaves the same way when no one is looking. Someone who has the same principles no matter if he/she is talking with a crowd of wealthy bankers or a group of homeless veterans. One of the worst things I`ve seen happen to our politicians is this phony "branding" BS, the stuff the 30-somethings chat about on The Cycle. It`s temporary image-making which could change in a flash, depending on what the focus group thinks. Our country needs a grounded, principled candidate who has honest, firsthand knowledge of what people in this country are going through. We don`t need a candidate who playacts to get a vote, we need someone genuine.
