The Matthew Sheppard rerun was on TV tonight!

I cannot begin to summarize how I feel. How could two teenage boys be so filled with such hatred against another teen to lure him to killing him?

I always wonder how the parents of Matthew are doing and how the two teens who killed him are doing! Are they still in jail?

Am in Canada, the parents in the movie were wonderful, they supported their son Matty (nickname).

That movie is heart wrenching for any parent! Imagine they supported him being gay, agreed he should do what he wanted. He went for his dreams and got brutally killed. I really liked the father's statement at the court hearing, it was tear jerking. No matter what, your child should not be brutally killed because he/she is gay or lesbian. This is a very touchy subject and I do not want to use the wrong words. However, some parents feel that if their child came home after the curfew, she should be locked out, that is how Paul Bernardo was able to abduct a 17 year old and raped and killed her. Her Mom opened the door, told her she would not let her in and she went walking the streets. Gosh, if I were that Mom, I could not live with myself!

I have to google what became of those two guys, were they remorseful or not!

I read a great deal about it. After that horrible book came out claiming that the murderers only said it was because Matthew was hay because they thought they would get off easier. That they, and no one in Laramie, ever had a problem with gay people.

Just so horribly sad

Thank you for responding. Yep, probably don't have the same channels

bathroom according to the show and offered him a lift home and he accepted. He was so innocent.

That was premeditated murder on their part. Glad they got put away for a long time and am glad to hear that Matt's parents are huge advocates for civil rights.

And as part of the agreement to avoid the death penalty, those two murderers cannot talk about the murder.

That is so commendable. His parents are fighting for his rights too and am glad to hear that his parents are still together.

Am glad the worst one got two life sentences rather than the death penalty. The death penalty is too easy when you are so guilty for killing another human being! Actually, Sam Waterson, who played the father in the movie was really good.

I have always been horrified about the treatment of gays, but never thought that they would get killed. We have a far way to go but we are making progress.

Matts parents did vow to ensure that their son's life will not go in vain and am glad that they are so proactive.
