Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe just had a 4.0 earthquake in Michigan.
Weird & unusual. Epicenter about 50 miles away, houseplants shaking, table that TV sits on rattling. My sweetie & I asked each other, "Did you see/feel that?!?" We didn't hear a truck go by, so I said it looked like an earthquake judging form how the plants were bobbing up and down. I know it's nothing compared to other places, but it was definitely different for around here. Are they fracking in Galesburg?

(34,458 posts)We thought we were going nuts, lol. Reports of minor damage to a building in East Lansing. A lot of E. Lansing is reclaimed riverbed, so the soil is soft. Really weird feeling.

(22,336 posts)None of those look close to Galesburg (though maybe it doesn't have to be that close)
Edited again because I googled and it does look like it's close enough for the fracking to have caused it: http://www.livescience.com/45322-fracking-wastewater-farther-earthquakes.html

(111,359 posts)That sounds like most of the earthquakes I felt back in Boston. There was one exception, a 4.1 centered in Canada that sent all its energy south through bedrock. That one caused buildings (including the Victorian house I lived in) to sway pretty dramatically.

(22,336 posts)and I am not used to earthquakes. I told my kids to run outside, because I didn't know what was happening but it sounded loud and like it might be involving my roof, and the whole house was shaking. My neighbors were all running outside too.
I was not aware of any fracking in Galesburg.

(567 posts)I'm high up in an 105 yr old factory loft building. Shook us up with sand and grit falling over my desk, some creaking sounds all around. Few of the cats were bug eyed looking up at me. Just about an hour ago.

Thought it might be a truck rumbling......but it was not.
Many people felt it.

(34,458 posts)More could trickle in, but 4.2 isn't very powerful. Sure did feel strange, though.

(22,336 posts)but it was an old house. I heard someone say a picture fell of the wall too. But yeah this is small stuff. Nothing serious except I did hear about the one building in E. Lansing. It must have also been an old building to have any kind of damage.
