who helped to push the President to evolve, probably more quickly than he would have liked. You are the real heroes here.
(I do think the "leave it to the states" thing is horseshit, but it's a lot better than it was before)

(68,918 posts)I applaud a community who has worked tirelessly time and again to help elect progressives. I applaud them for not giving up...even when there were visible tire treads upon their backs. When their right to be treated equally in the eyes of the government was looked upon as a pet cause (which it still is by many). Let this just be the beginning.

(9,002 posts)This should get as many rec's as "The most SWEET SMELLING President in history" threads if not more.

And although we pretty much expected the outcome in North Carolina, it still made us angry, and increased our resolve.
I sense that we are all seriously collectively motivated and are mobilizing right now.

(82,383 posts)OK so you are determined to give Obama no credit. Fine, but then you can't blame him for his previous stance. That's because the activists were failures heretofore, or something. Don't the activists now have a duty to work on Rmoney? Suppose he wins?
Capt. Obvious
(9,002 posts)Next time you start a passive agressive thread in H&M for someone mentioning your name derisively - this is most likely why.
treestar
(82,383 posts)You are unbelievable. No one can disagree with you or make any comment without you making it personal.
Good grief, you would complain if it were you. I don't know much about you since I stick to the issues rather than the people.
Why do you not respond to the point then? Why does Obama get all the blame and none of the credit while the activist get none of the blame and all of the credit? That's deranged.
ZombieHorde
(29,047 posts)This is making it personal.
What would you like to blame gay activists for?
treestar
(82,383 posts)for a post about you, and that the software allowed for that.
You are the one making things so personal. Which is sort of conservative-cavey, I mean, why do you notice the names so much of the posters who annoy you by supporting Democrats on Democratic underground?
Capt. Obvious
(9,002 posts)So what are you trying to say in this post?

tishaLA
(14,176 posts)And I applaud what the president has done (I also posted Greenwald's comments about the state's rights stuff, in support of the president, which I find convincing).
The thing is: IMO the day and the issue belong more to the LGBT movement and the activists within that movement who have changed perceptions than they belong to ANY politician.
This only happened because real heroes facing real oppression were able to change minds.
treestar
(82,383 posts)I am not a "fangurl" but a logical one, somewhat practical, who finds it annoying when people idolize the Presidency as so all powerful. Then when the President happens to do what they want, he's out of the picture. Inconsistent.
tishaLA
(14,176 posts)I just think the arc of civil right generally--and LGBT rights specifically--are more important than any one person.
Reasonable people are free to disagree on this of course. I'm not interested in taking credit from the President, but in spreading credit to those who made the
evolution possible.
treestar
(82,383 posts)Who've been trashing him over the issue in spite of what he did do on it who helped him "evolve." These same people complain that they aren't motivated by negativity, so why do they think their negativity got the President on their side? No wonder they keep it up, then. I don't like the idea that people are motivated by negativity - I'm not. Like those photos of LBJ in someone's face, leaning over them - I'd dig my heels in, and so would most people.

THAT is how battles-tirelessly fought on the front lines for decades and lifetimes- are slowly won and collective social change eventually happens.
Capt. Obvious

(82,383 posts)as an automatic fang url. I am just practical. I am not going to trash Obama when his opponent is Rmoney. I'm not going to trash any Democrat running against a tea partier. I support the President, and that does not mean I am a "fang url." You are proving to be an unpleasant name-caller, who apparently dislikes me for supporting Democrats on democratic undergrounds. You act like you have a right to us all agreeing with you.
Capt. Obvious
(9,002 posts)and i'm calling you names. Interesting.

(55,147 posts)If it had not been for these two things he would still be evolving.
And wheres your proof they have not been working on Romney? Peddle your tripe elsewhere.
treestar
(82,383 posts)I thought that was a bad thing?
So what about money and activists? The President serves the country. The voters. I hope you aren't one of the ones going on about how "the corporations" should not get what they want for their money, then!
UnrepentantLiberal
(11,700 posts)I'll remember you now.

(82,383 posts)So you think giving money to a campaign means the elected official should cater to you? And then do you complain at the same time that others do the same?
UnrepentantLiberal
(11,700 posts)They should cater to me. That's why I worked to get them elected.

it is really nice for us to have our resolve and persistence so graciously recognized and acknowledged.
On a side note, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful allies of the LGBT community reading this, who have supported and assisted us in helping us to change many hearts and minds, and helping folks evolve on this issue.
Y'all played a large part in raising collective awareness of the unreasonable and unjust situation that the LGBT community experiences as an oppressed minority.
So, thanks, backatcha, for all you have done for us.
We all are the checks and balances on our leaders.
We all are the real hope for change.
Love ya Zorra
Love you back, sweetie!
