Oklahoma Trooper Shoots, Kills Man During Okmulgee County Water Rescue

OKMULGEE COUNTY, Oklahoma - An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper shot and killed a man authorities say attacked the trooper. Authorities say the officer-involved fatal shooting took place on Hectorville Road near South Memorial Drive in Okmulgee County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, they got a call saying a motorist needed help at about 9:20 p.m. Friday. The responding troopers found two men pushing a truck out of flood waters.

The trooper ordered them to get to safety as water was rising rapidly, according to Captain Paul Timmons, OHP.

"As they were exiting the water, coming towards the troopers, a confrontation occurred," said Captain Paul Timmons. "One of the troopers was actually assaulted, and in defense of himself, he fired."
