(26,355 posts)...which was a maneuver intended to get the Senate to debate this bill, which at least waters down the NSA's snooping authority a notch or two, instead of what Mitch McConnell wanted to do, which was to do a straight reauthorization of the PATRIOT Act.
Sanders know his parliamentary strategy.

From your link (I'm listening to the video now):
The longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history, the Vermont senator, who calls himself a socialist, entered the race to win the Democratic nomination on April 30. Last week, in a more formal campaign launch against the backdrop of Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vt., Sanders promised to fight to protect working families and warned the nations billionaires that they cant have it all. (bold added to show what I'm talking about)
From your link to twitter:
. @SenSanders just told @KatieCouric that he will vote against the USA Freedom Act http://yhoo.it/1cubkOW #YahooLive (bold also added for contrast to previous)
He'll vote against it or for it depending which you read. Erm....wtf?
Maybe it's in the video (still listening). yahoo seems to be speaking out of both sides of its mouth.
edit to add: finally heard Bernie's response: voting against it because it doesn't go far enough.
His official Twitter page retweeted that without objection.
I think the article was written pre-interview, following up on his Meet The Press interview yesterday.
He did word his answer to Todd that way, but from what I've read today... he definitely told Couric he'd be voting against it.

(13,258 posts)Yeah, I don't doubt you. I doubt yahoo.
I'm re-listening to the video - he'll vote against it - it doesn't go far enough. That's what I thought his reasoning would be.
couric keeps trying to tie Bernie with rand paul. I hate that shit.
I will tell you something, katie couric is awful as an interviewer though I suspect she's doing what she's paid to do. she has a narrative she wants out there (or her bosses do) and she's going for that. Rumor, innuendo, the accusatory question, and so on.
I don't spend much time any more listening or watching mainstream media. Now I remember why. They all fish for the answer they want even if they have to re-word the question 50 times and/or mis-quote or strip a quote of its context. katie appears to be another of them.

(13,258 posts)I knew what he meant. I figured other Bernie supporters would too.
I wasn't attempting to do a full transcription; though I did try to find one. It would have been much easier. I don't do transcription as quickly as I'd like.
Glad you filled in the blanks. Thanks.
